No doubt, we are all looking forward to getting back out on the water. If you’ve not been sailing so far this year why not at least start thinking and writing about it with an article for the spring issue of Ebb & Flow?

We need your input to make the next Ebb and Flow interesting so please let us know all about your sailing adventures and activities. If you are writing an article (and please do), a few photos if you have them help to make it even more interesting (and make it easier to adjust it to fit in the space available).

We can all learn from the nautical experiences of others so let’s hear about your sailing successes and failures – don’t be embarrassed, pseudonyms can be used if you prefer! Whether cruising or racing, why not let us have some information on your tips and or trips. What about some practical advice or suggestions for this summer. Why not write something on your favourite type of dinghy or cruiser, practical boating advice or cooking in confined quarters – all contributions gratefully received.

Other ideas for articles: what made you want to get afloat in the first place, what was your first sailing experience; what was your worst (and/or best) sailing experience; what boat would you like to own and why; sailing trivia; most useful piece of kit; book reviews; your favourite nautical film or poem?

Sailing stories, cartoons or photos are all welcome? Don’t be shy, start to write – it’s not that difficult. It’s a bit like sailing in fact – once you’ve pushed off, you’ll soon by under way!

Calling all race officer and patrol boat volunteers – Dutyman now open for the 2015 season

Dutyman is now open for the 2015 season. As last year, we ask race officers and patrol boat volunteers to go into Dutyman and make their own duty selections, picking 5 (or more if you wish). Once you have selected a duty, it is yours to complete unless you subsequently swap it, so please take care with your selections. Please also ensure you are familiar with the event concerned, particularly those requiring a committee boat start, or those categorised as higher risk or family friendly events. There is further information on events on the online calendar and in the sailing section of the website.

If you would like to request training it can be requested via the Members Duty Training Request button on the secure members’ area of the website. In the next few days the Sailing Committee will be contacting those members who have already requested training, and will also be arranging shore based refresher training for all.

Heart Defibrillator

The Tudor Sailing Clubhouse now has a portable Heart Defibrillator. The Defibrillator is located in the Saloon adjacent the First Aid Box and Guest Signing In Book. There are 3 instructions on the front of the defibrillator, which when carried out, the device talks through and controls the procedure.

There are a few points to NOTE:

The pads (electrodes) are single use items.
The pads and device is suitable for age 8years and over.
The Defibrillator is NOT FOR A WET CASUALTY.
(may be towel and talcum powder?)

Chichester Harbour Race Week 17-21 August 2015

Hello from the Race Week promotion team

Dinghy sailors from your club have previously competed in Chichester Harbour’s biggest dinghy event of the year – the five-day regatta run by Chichester Harbour Federation from Hayling Island SC and familiarly known as Fed Week. It’s a great dinghy regatta with racing for 300-plus boats in 14 separate starts on three courses in the open tidal water close to the harbour mouth. We hope previous competitors will be back, along with more of your members.

For 2015 the event has a new name, Chichester Harbour Race Week, chosen to describe the event more clearly to all potential competitors, and a dedicated website provides much better information to everyone interested in the week. Do please share this news with your members.

The new event website is now live. It provides details of the event, the Notice of Race, entry fees – on-line entry is available now – and other information such as sources of accommodation on Hayling Island and activities for non-sailing members of competitors’ families.

AGM at BRNC

East Coast Branch mid winter dinner

22 members gathered for the first event of the calender year 22 members gathered in the Holiday Inn, Ipswich following the successful visit to the RAF Search and Rescue Force. The evening kicked off with a short presentation on a Doctors view of casually care. Dr Simon Coney a twin of the Branches Jon Coney and former naval doctor.

Branch Search and Rescue Visit

29 members and friends visited the local RAF Search and Rescue base at Wattisham Station. Having entertained the crew of HMS Gleaner and taken a number of Army personal afloat it was the turn of the junior service. The SARF at Wattisham disbands in the summer 2015 so the branch took a last opportuntiy to vist, learn about the role and notiable incidients as well as saying thank you for the years of 'top cover' provdied by the SARf to East Coast yachts people.

Tudor Crew Match System

Now that the online sailing calendar has been loaded onto the website, it would be a great time to look through the sailing calendar and decide which events you want to participate in. If there is an event that you would like to participate in but you need either a crew or a boat we have a solution! Why not use the Tudor Crewmatch system? Crewmatch is available for every event including cruises, races, dinghy and yacht (cruiser). The system allows you to record that you have a boat but need a crew or that you are a willing crew member for a helm with a boat. Its a great way to get some experience on a boat you don’t usually sail or to make new friends at the club.

Here is how to do it. Simply find the event in the online calendar on the website. Then click the “crew match” icon on the calendar. Fill in your name, email address and the details of the boat/experience etc. Click submit and then confirm via the email you receive. Once you have done this a little red person (crew offered) or a little red boat (crew needed) will appear next to the event on the website. If you SEE one of these on the website why not take a look to see who is looking for crew or volunteering as crew and consider pairing up with them.

Got it? Yay! Why not make 2015 the season where you try a different class, boat or crew/helm combination. Make (more) friends and have (more) fun!
