If you didn’t do any bar duties this year but would to volunteer this year please email me in the next 2 weeks.
Full training will be provided if you are not yet bar trained or would like a refresher.
Thanks,

Dinghy Insurance
Is your Dinghy stored on a road trailer?
When renewing my dinghy insurance (with Towergate Mardon), I found out that, because I store my dinghy on its road trailer, it is not insured for theft unless the road trailer is fitted with a wheel clamp. If you chose to store your dinghy in this way, you are advised to check your own insurance to make sure that you are covered for theft.

Immobilise
Immobilise is the world’s largest FREE register of possession ownership details and together with its sister sites the Police’s NMPR and CheckMEND, forms a very effective tool in helping to reduce crime and repatriate recovered personal property to its rightful owners. Immobilise can be used by members of the public and businesses to register their valued possessions or company assets, and exclusive to Immobilise all account holders registered items and ownership details are viewable on the Police national property database the NMPR.

Antifoul Removal Service – are you interested?
This year, my intention is to have Basil, my Westerly Griffon, soda blasted to remove unknown numbers of antifoul applications. This will probably lead to a new epoxy coating system being applied before I antifoul again. Having approached the Bosuns’ Committee, the suggestion made is that I wait until all other boats are launched (after launch weekend, the 2/3 April 2016) to have the works carried out. This would mean easier access for the company doing work, less mess within the compound, longer evenings to finish working and hopefully better weather!
So to assist in reducing the costs of the blasting, is there anyone else interested in having their hull prepared in the same manner? The more boats which are done, the cheaper the whole process becomes for everyone having the blasting carried out. At the time being, my thoughts are to go with a company called Symblast (mickywillis or call me on 0208 337 1259 evenings and we can discuss. I currently have one other boat keen to have antifoul removal carried out, so if you are tired of scraping, fed up with the mess and your back is aching, message me!!
Thanks,
Micky Willis
Ref. Ian DuCane Gig purchase
I would like to thank all those supporters of the rowing Gig idea who turned out on a “Grotty” Sunday morning. Although there are enough people in support to take the idea forward it appears that others are considering the situation. I am minded therefore to allow the situation more time to develop and I am prepared to personally carry the costs of insurance etc. for a few weeks to give time for reflection. All those who would like to support this venture in whatever capacity please ensure that I am made aware of your interest by phone, text or email. I will report on the situation as it unfolds.

Thank You
Those of us who were there, will be aware of the debates we had an the Club’s AGM. One important point that was inadvertently missed out, was a vote of thanks to the members standing down on the Executive Committee and on other Club Committees. I hope Members will join me in recording a vote of thanks for the valuable service rendered by the Committee Members and Officers.

Purchase of 15ft Gig by Ian DuCane
I was disappointed that the idea to start a Gig rowing section failed to gain the necessary enthusiasm from the majority of the club members and after the vote I was minded to allow the whole idea to “fall into history”. However I was immediately approached by several members who were very supportive of the idea and expressed a strong desire to purchase the boat privately. I was thus immediately swung back to a more positive frame of mind and I have now purchased the Gig that was for sale, there was no time to lose as I had already stalled the advertising of the boat for over a month and I owed the owners a prompt decision.
I am planning on collecting the boat on Thursday of this week so it should be available for interested parties to scrutinise at the weekend. I am planning on being at the club at 0900hrs on Sunday morning to meet any interested members.
Anyone interested in supporting this venture with a view to possibly purchasing a share of this Gig should either turn up on Sunday, or contact me by phone or email prior to Sunday morning. Tel: 07775916077; email: ianducane.
I am sure this will be a fun boat for all involved.
Very Best Regards
Ian Ducane
Does your Laser need a new cover?
At the end of season dinghy meeting it was observed that there are quite a few lasers that could do with a new cover. I have approached several suppliers and have managed to secure discounts for a bulk buy of 10 or more covers. The current best price is £64 from Rooster Sailing – https://www.roostersailing.com/pd/Laser-Top-Cover-in-1680D-Polyester-High-UV-resistant_100685.htm
If you need a new cover and would like to take advantage of this offer then please let me know by Friday 29th January.

Committee Vacancies
After the Nomination Meeting, we had no nominees for several posts; since then, Jan Sobey has decided not to stand again as Hon. Secretary and Rob Waring has decided to step down as Vice Commodore due to a promotion at work. The good news is that Paul Megson has decided to stand as Hon. Secretary. So we need the following vacancies to be filled at the AGM:
- Vice Commodore
- Rear Commodore
- Assistant Secretary
- Sailing Secretary
- Sailing Committee (2 members)
- Bosun’s Committee (3 members)
- Social Committee (1 member)
At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, please think long and hard about how you could contribute to help the club run. It will be very difficult for Hannah, as the new Commodore, to run the club properly with vacancies on the Exec Committee and without half of the Bosun’s Committee.
If you do not offer to stand, then please do not complain when things that you want to happen don’t happen.
If you want to find out more about what the posts involve, please feel free to talk to me or the club officer for the relevant committee.

AGM January 2016 AOB
Proposal to require all TSC Helms to be qualified to RYA Powerboat Level 2 within 5 years
In my previous role as Dinghy Captain I was responsible for the initial draft sailing calendar and I also spent many an enjoyable day helming and crewing our array of Patrol Boats in support of that programme. I’ve seen very many skill levels throughout my time on the water and believe that the time is right for the club to move towards nationally recognised qualifications for all helms. The attached document gives the proposal for the AGM and my supporting evidence which includes a series of financial options.
I would urge you all to read the document before the AGM. It is four pages long and by its very nature has detail written all over it. Those that know me are now permitted a wry smile… But this is my opportunity to grab your attention and ask for your support for the proposal. I am more than willing to answer all questions that you may have and I’m fully prepared to stand up and give an overview at the AGM. Understandably it may well prove to be an emotive subject and in our wonderful world of democracy I urge you to attend and vote. I would like to think the weight of argument is fully in favour, but we are all allowed a view and the AGM is the place to express that support or rejection.
So read, inwardly digest, and take a while to think; we may be happy with the current system and see no reason to change. But, I firmly believe that Tudor needs to continue its positive steps for the future and build on our recent purchase of additional RIBs for on water support and the purchase, with a Sport England grant, of three brand new RS sailing dinghies. And now a move for qualified Patrol Helms.
See you for the Boxing Day Race? I’ll be in the RIB….
Have a great Christmas one and all
Phil Bryant.

Patrol Boat Helm or Crew needed for Boxing Day Race
Our helm for the Boxing Day Race has had to withdraw, so we need to find another volunteer for the event, scheduled to start at 11:30 on 26th Dec. The place can be filled by either a helm or crew (the person scheduled to crew is also qualified to helm). If you would like an excuse to escape for a few hours on Boxing Day then please either volunteer on Dutyman or contact one of the sailing committee.

Ref..Proposal to start a “Gig” Rowing section
Gig rowing is a fast growing sport, with many races and meetings all around the country and particularly along the South coast.
I propose that the club obtain and operate a number of Gigs (initially One but possibly rising to 3 dependent of course on demand). Crews would be formed to suit the membership needs……those who would use them for fun….racing crews…….all ages crews……“semi” competitive crews…..all female crews…..long distance cruising crews…….etc..
The TSC is already well equipped to engage in this growing boating activity which has the ability to serve the whole of the membership, be it dinghy sailors, cruiser owners, fishermen, kayakers and even those who currently support the club but are not “afloat”.
Gig rowing can be engaged in all year round…..most of the craft are robust and sea kindly designs, they can be launched and used in choppy conditions without the need of safety craft and I feel sure this activity would prove a boon for those sailors who take their own craft out of commission for the winter.
Gig rowing is easily accessible to anybody with some boat “sense”…..the technique is easy to learn, most club members would be immediately at home, and is open to all ages (There are no sliding seats or other fancy bits of kit).
Audrey and I recently went for a row with the Hamble Gig Club…..We rowed from the “Jolly sailor “ at Bursledon to the “Horse and Jockey” at Curdridge where we all had breakfast. There were several boats on the “Cruise” and the ages of the rowers ranged from approx. 10 to 80 years of age….(including some very elderly ladies)……..massive fun and healthy to.
Gig rowing caters equally to the “Fun and cruising” mind set, as well as those who are “competitive” by nature.
I hope to supply more information at the forthcoming AGM and will do my best to answer any questions??
