Galley Training
For those of you interested in contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the club through volunteering for your maintenance hours in the galley I will be running a monthly training session. To get us started there will be two sessions in June Wed 6th and Wed 13th both at 18.15. The sessions will take up to 30mins and will give you an introduction to the kitchen, use of equipment, a few health and safety pointers and the money handling procedure. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.
Members really appreciate the galley being open on Friendly Fridays and for other events particularly having hot food when they come off the water. So volunteer to be a part of the galley team; there are 2 positions available, the cook and the cooks assistant. Being the cook means you can prepare a meal of your choice either on-site in the kitchen or make it at home and bring it in to serve so you can be as creative as you like. As the cooks assistant you will help with the prep, serving and clearing away afterwards.
Galley duties available for Friendly Fridays in June are 8th, 15th 22nd & 29th all require 2 volunteers for 3 hours each. For new members it’s a great opportunity to meet people. If you’re interested in either training or galley duty contact me via the website. Your contribution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Patrol Boat training (Tudor qualification)
Phil Bryant has kindly offered some more dates for PB training on some upcoming Fridays. It is our goal to run two PB1 sessions and one PB2 session but this will depend on who comes forward. If you would like to get trained up, please let me know. Ideally email me with a first and second choice date and please confirm which training you require. (Please note that you cannot train for PB2 unless you have already done some duties as crew).
Friday 15/06 |
Sunset 2119 |
LW 1840 |
0.7m (ouch that’s a long haul up the slipway) |
Friday 29/06 |
Sunset 2121 |
LW 1830 |
1.3m (still a long way…) |
Friday 06/07 |
Sunset 2118 |
HW 1800 |
4.4m (that’s better) |
As a reminder, please note that this is the Tudor in house training. These training sessions are designed to meet our specific needs and do not provide you with any externally recognised certification. There is no cost to taking these training sessions though I am sure that Phil will appreciate a beer in the bar afterwards.

News of former members still friends of Tudor
Last week (31 May) Lin Goodyear attended a Buckingham Palace garden party in the company of former family member Ian Jenkinson who was invited for his work for and on behalf the Institution of Civil Engineers whose 200th anniversary it is. Ian is both a Fellow of Civil, and, Mechanical Engineering Institutions. Ian used to ‘race’ his GP14 at our Club, always taking a flask of tea along. Ian is still sailing at his club on Carsington Water, and the North Wales coast, and has a trans-Atlantic crossing planned for October this year. Lin says she was honoured to be asked to go with Ian. Chris spent the day with Emma, (Ian’s eldest) and new grandson (7 weeks) Johnny, having a walk out by the Thames at Richmond.
Two weeks back, four cruisers visited Fareham Sailing and Motor Boat Club and met up with former members of Tudor, George and Liz Thomson. George was Bosun of our Club not long ago. George and Liz held a fun-filled fund raising event in their garden in Fareham for the MS Trust. George will be cycling to Amsterdam this week, June 6 raising more funds. Last year he completed London to Paris. Their garden party raised £1200 for the MS Trust.
