Thefts and Financial Discrepancies

During the afternoon of Saturday 5th of May the bar honesty box was stolen from the club bar, it is believed that the theft occurred around 1600hrs. The Club’s front door and gates were locked at the time and we believe access was gained via the ladies changing room.

Myles has reported the theft to the police and has obtained a crime reference number. If you saw any suspicious behaviour or have any information, please contact Myles (rearcommodore), myself or another member of the Executive Committee.

We have also detected various small discrepancies to cash holdings for the bar and galley. Our security and cash handling processes are being reviewed and any changes will be communicated to current bar and galley trained members in due course.

To help keep our shared and personal assets at the Club safe, can all members please be extra vigilant around the club and ensure all areas are properly locked and alarmed behind you. If you see anyone you do not recognise on Club premises challenge them as long as it safe to do so and report any suspicious behaviour to a member of the Executive Committee or the Police as appropriate.

Portsmouth Harbour

The following has been circulated for club members through PLSA:

As regular users of the harbour it worth an early season reminder, that with the arrival of the Queen Elizabeth Class Carrier, that the General Direction in relation to the use of the Small Boat Channel was updated in last Autumn.

The Portsmouth Harbour entrance and main approach channel is considered a narrow channel in accordance with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions and Sea (COLREGS) and as such, all mariners are reminded that in accordance with Rule 9(b) “a vessel of less than 20 metres in length or a sailing vessel shall not impede the passage of a vessel that can safely navigate only within a narrow channel or fairway”.

Vessels under 20m are to use the Small Boat Channel which is General Direction 02/17: Portsmouth Harbour Entrance-Approach Channel, Small Boat Channel, Swashway and Inner Swashway, full details of this can be read here:

https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/qhm/portsmouth/local-notices/general-directions/2017/1702-portsmouth-harbour-entrance

Attached is an extract of the General Direction which can be taken afloat.

It is also worth mentioning that shipping movements, tidal information etc are published daily via the Queens Harbour Master Webpage: https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/qhm/portsmouth

Thank you and safe boating.

Not so ambitious [as racing across the Pacific] but I will be sailing the west coast of Canada in the Pacific from Victoria to the Broken Islands in June, and upon returning in July returning to Brock in Friesland, the Netherlands if any crew from Tudor should wish to join for a week or two they would be most welcome in July or August. Please express interest by email.
