Social Events Update
Sword Sands Fun Day – 10th July
A huge thank you to all of you that came along on Sunday to make the event a huge success.
Thank you to Mark for helping rig, and get the dinghies on and off of the water. Hannah for helping with the kayaks, to John Elson for being a ferry service in the rowing gigs and to the patrol boat crews who ensured our safety
Thank you to all that helped with the food, and the galley gals that also ran the bar.
Lastly, I guess I ought to say congratulations to the men that beat us ladies at rounders! The ladies are looking forward to a rematch – you may not be so lucky next time!
Curry & Quiz Night – 15th July
It is curry night this Friday, so come along to relax, enjoy a drink and maybe win a prize at the quiz
We will be serving a chicken mango curry served with rice, poppadom and Naan from 6pm to 7pm.
Please pre book so we have an idea how many people to cater for
There is no need to eat to come along and join in with the quiz, but why not try something a little different.

Turning the Tide – 22nd July
As highlighted by our rowing captain

Galley Training – 21st July 8.00pm
If you need to do duty hours and are happy to help in the galley then please book to come along to galley training.
This will entail going through health and hygiene procedures, allergies etc. It will only take about an hour, is very informal, and it means you are then able to help in the galley
Galley duties can be helping with the BBQ’s, serving food, cleaning and washing up. You don’t have to be able to cook, unless you want to.
We will be out on the water, so it will start at 8 pm.

Friendly Friday Rowing Race Night – 29th July
This is the evening when the rowers put their names in a hat and get to row with people of differing capabilities for a fun row round Broom and back.
It’s a great way to get to know each other. If you haven’t rowed before or are relatively new, that is no problem, everyone is welcome to come along and join in, or just to watch and join us for something to eat.
We will be serving bacon, mac and cheese with garlic bread

Lastly, we have had a table delivered which is to go outside, it is at the club. if anyone has a few minutes to spare could they please put it together, there is a drink in it for you Thank you.

Turning the Tide – Friday 22nd July
There’s still time to book for what’s shaping up to be a great evening. Join us for a beginner’s look at how the tides work in our harbour, and what affects them. Plus some basic training on all those floating buoys out there and what they mean for you. We’re delighted to be welcoming John Bearman to the club to speak. John works for the Hampshire Police Marine Unit and is also a RYA yachtmaster instructor.
There’ll be chilli and rice served between 6pm and 7pm and the talk will start at around 7pm. You don’t have to eat to come along, but pre booking either way would be appreciated so we know numbers to expect/cater for. The web collect link is below.
Although this evening is developed for newer members, our seasoned sailors, rowers, and paddlers are very welcome as the more advice and guidance in the room the better.
Ps: would be great to hear from you on the night about other seamanship evenings you’d find useful. We’ll definitely be running another knotty night at some point, but your ideas and feedback are appreciated.

Ebb & Flow:
For those attending Locks Regatta this coming weekend (see Diary Dates below) I have attached a copy of the sailing instructions.
On a slightly more personal note, I am doing Trek 26 to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society at the beginning of September. That’s a 26 mile walk from Salisbury up round Stonehenge and back. At the beginning of the year my dad, Brian Tansom, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s so, possibly in a rash moment, I decided to sign up. I’m not sure how many members remember my dad, but he joined a few years before I did in 1964 (he had a head start as I wasn’t born!). I remember helping him cut the grass at the old club growing up, and he became Secretary in 1980 or thereabouts. As another piece of club trivia, the Assistant Secretary role was created at the same time because he worked in a children’s home and with the shift patterns couldn’t make some meetings. As Assistant Secretary my mum covered this, and they continued in those posts for around 22 years.
Anyway, if anyone would like to sponsor me you can do so at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/paul-tansom-trek26
As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.
Let’s be careful out there.
