LV SEE Pursuit Race
This Sunday is the L V See pursuit race starting at 13:00. For those not familiar with pursuit races, all boats start at a specific time based on your Tudor handicap number. With the slowest boat starting first. The theory goes that if all boats taking part do equally well then everyone finishes at the same time. In practice the sailors sailing better will either stay in front of the fast boats or, if sailing a fast boat, catch the slower boats up.
The start times after the start signal are attached to this email and will be displayed at the bottom of the race box steps. If anyone is wanting more information about pursuit races then please feel free to email me. Also the race officer will be around before the start sequence and is happy to answer any questions you might have. We still need 2 patrol boat helms for this race so if you are trained up then please volunteer on Dutyman as soon as possible.

Kayak and Dinghy Captain Updates
Since the clubs AGM there has been no formal Dinghy Captain. As Sailing Sec and outgoing Dinghy Captain, I did take on some of the role but it was far from ideal. Which is why I am pleased to announce that Hannah Barnes has been accepted as dinghy captain. This does mean that Hannah has now stepped down as Kayak Captain and the role was advertised to the kayak section. Two members came forward to volunteer for the role but unfortunately only one of them was eligible to stand for the role according the clubs constitution. So I am pleased to announce that the new kayak captain is Alex Ford.

Rowing Update
Tudor Challenge
Thank you to everyone that helped make the club’s first Tudor Challenge a success on Saturday. We have had some fantastic feedback from our own members and the clubs we hosted. All are keen for us to make our fixed seat rowing challenge an annual event in the harbour’s calendar. Mother Nature rightly stole the show with some blistering heat but with sensible precautions everyone had lots of fun. Congratulations to TSC’s Navigator crew who won the overall Tudor Challenge Cup. A full list of winners will be available on the website soon.
Everyone there on Saturday made our neighbouring sailing and rowing clubs feel really welcome. Brilliant job TSC
Friendly Friday Rowing Race night
Friday 26th August will be the final fun race night of the summer season. It’s the usual format that I tell you every month but weather willing there might be some water pistols added this time to keep you on your toes.
We will also be hosting more local sailing and rowing clubs to join us in our Bursledons and enjoy a Tudor sunset.
Everyone is welcome as always. Even if you don’t row, please join us.
If you’d like to row please arrive by 6pm for the 6.15 briefing.
Food will be served later in the evening and this month it is authentic Italian Lasagne (and a vegetarian pasta option). Because of preparation time pre booking will be essential this month and a web collect link will be available shortly. [or keep checking here: https://webcollect.org.uk/tudorsc if you want to catch it as soon as it appears – Ed]

Ebb & Flow
I have been advised that the outboard motor has been stolen from Eryngium sometime between 30th July and 8th August (no other damage has been done). It may be worth checking your boat if you havn’t in that period.
On a slightly more positive note, Chichester Harbour have published “An essential safety guide for the new or less experienced mariner”. There are a few Chichester specific bits, but some is generally relevant even if you’re not visiting our neighbouring harbour. You can download the PDF at: https://conservancy.co.uk/assets/files/cms_item/32/d-Essential_Safety_Leaflet_LORES-L1sSGPPDV4.pdf
As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.
Let’s be careful out there.
