Saturday Early Bird

Early Summer Series Race 3

Grey cold day and lack of breeze makes it difficult for all the competitors Tuesday had been a brilliant day with really warm sun and a good breeze. Was this the start of summer but no when a nearly full fleet mustered at Gilkicker on Wednesday evening it was back to cold and grey. The only difference from past weeks was the much reduced breeze and a huge spring tide rushing towards Chichester.

Extension of Fitting Out Period

It was agreed at the last Executive meeting to extend the fitting out period for cruisers and fishing boats to Monday 13th May. This is a “one off”, hopefully not to be repeated, as a result of the prolonged cold weather experienced during the current lay up. If your boat is ready to launch, please do not take unnecessary advantage of this extension as we still have a lot of boats to launch. Please be reminded that “sick boat status” is not granted for work that is part of planned maintenance. Only under exceptional circumstances will sick boat status be granted by for any boats that remaining ashore after the extended deadline.

If you have not already checked your mooring, please make use of the ideal tides this weekend.

Members test out the results of fitting out and gather for a social at Harwich Twelve members gathered at Harwich for the Branch shake down cruise. Four residents walked to the meet, 3 drove over and the rest came by sea. Clear blue sky, sun, light airs. The early morning mist soon burnt off. A perfect day to check everything is working as expected.

HOIST UPDATE

I am pleased to say that the large tractor is now back in action and connected to the hoist. It has been a busy few days and we even managed to continue launching boats using the small tractor, which is a huge achievement. A big thanks to all involved.

Plymouth Cruising Group

The season begins with a meet in a famous old Pub The Plymouth Cruising Group held a ‘Fitting Out Respite’ dinner in the ‘Who’d have thought it’ pub in Milton Combe this weekend. The event was attended by 17 cruising members and partners and we were fortunate to have a room set aside solely for our use (which allowed Dave Barron-Robinson to provide a debrief on the events to date and an update on the planning for future events).
