Langstone Harbour Race Weekend

We are still short of some Patrol Boat crew for the Race Weekend. It will reflect badly on us as a club if we cannot resource both Patrol Boats each day so please consider whether you are able to stand into one of the roles. We require a helm on Saturday and a crew on both Sunday and Monday.

We also require a shore based coordinator for Sunday and Monday to monitor our fleet going on and coming off the water and to stay in touch with the committee boat about any retirements.

Any volunteers will be gratefully received!

Cockleshell Challenge

The Tudor rowing section had a great weekend at the ECA Cockleshell Rowing Challenge. On the Saturday we won 2 off the 3 races and came second in the 3rd (only lost by 4 seconds to a Solent Galley that should have been a lot faster than us). It was even better on the Sunday as we comfortably won the big race out round the fort, so taking the overall Trophy. We will put it up in the club particularly as it is the first for the new rowing section. The crew for all 4 races consisted of John Elson (Stroke), Ian DuCane (Sculls), Sandy Craig (Bow), Cox on the Saturday was Callum Robbins and Cox for Sundays Fort race was Jay DuCane. Both these young men did a marvellous job of steering us to victory in tight situations in the harbour races and needing to compass navigate in choppy seas causing surfing and yawing out round the fort. The ECA did a great job of hosting this, the first event of its kind in Langstone Harbour and the turnout proved that the sport has a great future in this neck of the woods.
