Hi all
Please see below for an update on committee vacancies, forthcoming events, updated bye-laws, new club kayaks, and more.
Following the AGM and the resignation of the Vice Commodore we had two Exec Committee positions (Vice Commodore and Honorary Secretary) that needed members to step up and fulfill.
I am pleased to announce that Richard Calas has stepped up to fill the role as Honorary Secretary and was appointed by the exec at our recent meeting.
The Vice Commodore post remains vacant.
Below is an overview of the role
Vice Commodore
Flag Officer, Executive Committee member and ex-officio member of all full committees
Elected at the AGM and holds office for 2 years (only 6 months left to run)
Responsibilities: To attend the monthly Executive Committee Meeting (3rd monday in the month)
The senior Flag Officer is the deputy Chairperson of the Executive Committee
For attending and participating in assigned Committee(s) of the Club as an Executive Officer – this is currently sailing committee on The 1st Tuesday in the month but could change depending on the persons experience and interests.
To support the Commodore in fulfilling the responsibilities of the Executive Committee
For representing TSC to external bodies
To attend RYA events such as club development forums, area meetings and local events.
Monitor and review contracts for the club such as cleaning and waste collection.
Management of club lease and rent renewal.
Submission of reports on club activities to club newsletter
There is one project in the pipeline for the new Vice Commodore
– along with Rear Commodore, Compound Bosun and group of members design and construct laser / topper/ kayak rack at North end of compound.
Club Kayaks – ready for use
The Exec has approved the purchase of 4 sit on top kayaks to be bought at the end of July. The club has taken delivery of two single seat kayaks and two double seat kayaks complete with seats and paddles. The cost of the boats will be met from the club reserves and as assets they will be depreciated over a number of years. Kayaking is a fast growing sport in the UK as can already be seen in the harbour with the amount of kayakers out each weekend. The purchase of the kayaks will enhance our existing fleet which include sailing dinghies, the patrol boats and Rosie the gig. The boats will allow more people to get out on the water, especially those who are not sailors but would like to go out with their families and enjoy the harbour. It will also enable us to grow our membership as we regularly have enquiries from prospective kayakers but have no kit they can use. The kayaks are available to be booked via Fastcourts for £2 for the single and £4 for the double (same rates as Rosie)

Sunday Bar – closure considered
We are considering removing the Sunday lunchtime session from the standard bar opening times from the end of August. The reasons for this are that (1) outside of club events the bar is rarely used during this session with takings typically amounting to a few pounds which does not reflect the maintenance-hours effort invested in opening and running the bar and (2) it is getting increasingly difficult to find volunteers that are prepared to work these sessions.
This would not prevent any current bar trained member from opening the bar on Sunday (or at any other time within our licence constraints) to serve drinks for themselves and others using the honesty box system if they so wish.
Please contact Jason if you believe that there is a case for retaining these sessions before we make a decision at the August Exec Meeting, or if you would like to be bar trained.
