Relaunch Briefing and Compound Reorganisation

Note updated time of 6am for cruiser relaunch.

The briefing for the cruiser relaunch will be held at 8pm Wednesday 6th (bar will be open). This is an important event where we allocate jobs for the weekend, organise the first few launches and give you updates on procedures. All cruiser owners should attend.

Relaunch itself will begin at 6:00am Saturday 9th, aiming for the first cruiser on the water at 6:30. Times tbc for Sunday 10th. All cruiser owners are required to be at the club to assist for both days.

Compound Reorganisation10am to 12 noon on Saturday 23rd April (2 weeks after relaunch due to Easter). I will send out more details nearer the time, but please put this date in your diary.

Cruisers – we will be asking any cruiser owners who’s buoy is not marked to do this with a paint marker that will be provided as we pick you up from your boat following relaunch.

Dinghy owners – we are in the process of labelling all dinghies with your name and type of boat using plastic labels (as per the bylaws). Please ensure before 23rd April that your trolley is in good repair, tyres pumped up and that the boat is not full of water.

Please note that the slipway will be closed for the weekend for all other activities. We will notify members by email if we finish early on Sunday.

Cruiser Launch – guidance and safety documents

We’ve produced a guide to the Cruiser launch to help the day run smoothly & safely, and to provide some top tips for those who are new to launching, and those who’ve been doing it for many years. We’ve also reviewed and revised the risk assessment and method statement (RAMS) for the whole operation. Can we ask you to please familiarise yourself with both documents.

Both documents can be found attached.

At this stage the weather’s looking ok for launch weekend (9/10 April) but over the next few days we’ll be able to gain a more accurate forecast of likely conditions. Please come to the Cruiser launch briefing at the Clubhouse on Wednesday 6th at 8pm to hear the final arrangements.

Thanks to all those who are involved.

Friendly Friday Rowing Race Night

It’s that time of year again. Now the clocks have changed the monthly race nights are back. The first one will be Friday 29th April at 6pm.

We randomly select teams and race around the Broom channel buoy and back. It’s that simple, not far, easy peasy ?.

The trophy ? will be awarded to the fastest team and the most important coveted wooden spoon is BACK thanks to a very convincing argument from a couple of wooden spoon recipients. As always our wonderful social committee will feed us and the web collect link is up already to buy food. It’s cod and chips this month ? Food, drink, and lots of fun. Come along and race or just come to watch and get to know each other. We’d love to see you.

  • 6pm – meet in the clubhouse and put your name in the hat if you’d like to row.
  • 6.15pm – Briefing on course info, rules and safety.
  • 6.30pm – let the battles commence.
  • 8pm – Prizegiving, food, and Bar ? .

Event is free, but if you’d like food please order via web collect.

Can’t wait to see you all.

? Happy Rowing . ??

Ebb & Flow:

A few hopefully interesting and / or useful links this week:

Oh, and cruiser owners, don’t forget the briefing tonight – he says feeling slightly uncomfortable that he won’t be there himself, but will be next door at the Open Forum (but as Chair I sort of have to be!).

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Let’s be careful out there.

HSSC & RNSA Wednesday Spring Series Race 1 – 30th March 2022

By Ric Hanslip A cool wind, NNW 8-12 Kts, greeted the small fleet assembled off Gilkicker for the first race of the HSSC Wednesday Spring Series. The first race of the season also for most. The honking east going tide was clearly going to be an issue for the SOOD responsible for setting the course plus a difficult wind angle and a forecast of the wind to shift further to the north.
