Care on the Slip

As we approach the start of another season, it’s worth a reminder to take care on the slipway. It can be slippery this time of year, although it should improve with use. As a precaution please think about wearing appropriate footwear (with a good grip) and asking for help if you have a heavily laden dinghy.

It’s also been reported that it’s really muddy at the bottom of the slip and the mud might try and grab your wellies.

Be careful out there!

Mamma Mia Singalong – 15th April 7.00pm

Come along for a bit of fun on Good Friday, we will be serving popcorn and ice cream and it is only £3!

Friendly Friday Rowing Race Night – 29th April

This is the evening when the rowers put their names in a hat and get to row with people of differing capabilities for a fun, and often competitive, row round Broom and back.

It’s a great way to get to know each other. If you haven’t rowed before or are relatively new, that is no problem, everyone is welcome to come along and join in, or just to watch and have something to eat.

Start of Season Get Together, Reopening and Prize Giving

All members are cordially invited to celebrate the grand bar re-opening, the start of the new season and the annual prize giving ceremony on the 1st April. The bar will be open from 7:30pm with the usually good selection of alcoholic and soft drinks at pub beating prices. There will also be 3 flavours of pasties including a vegetarian option served with salad available to members for free. If you want to bring non-members along they are welcome but will need to pay for their food. In addition there will be the club’s annual prize giving ceremony. So please do come down to support your club and fellow club members at the start of the 2022 season.

Icicle Series 7

The keen eyed members would have spotted that there is an extra race added to the Icicle series. Race 7 will be on the 3rd April with a race start time of 13:15.

Coastal Random Rowing

Saturday was a gloriously sunny day and 15 Tudor members set off (some by sea) to Northney Marina.

The Coastal Rowing Academy had planned 36 races in 6 types of boats with 12 teams from 14 Clubs taking place within 4 hours…and breathe. No trophies just a wonderful chance to try different vessels and have some fun. Hence the name Random Rowing. But you know plans on the water and weather!

It was an amazing sight. A harbour full of Bursledons, Skiffs, Solent Galley, Celtics, Coastal Quad and Cornish Pilot Gigs.

As the wind built, the course and race format both had to be changed but it didn’t stop over one hundred rowers having fun, making new friends and celebrating our beautiful harbour in the sunshine.

Tudor SC was amongst rowers from:

Bosham, Christchurch, Chichester, Molesey, Langstone, Hamble River, Dell Quay, Mengeham Rythe, Dittons, Royal Navy and Thames Barbarians.

I can’t sign off without mentioning the epic moment three ‘seasoned’ Tudor rowers decided to test their might in Freedom (a Bursledon Gig) against six rowers in Trafalgar, a Royal Navy Pilot Gig. A great row to watch, with Tudor victorious! true determination and teamwork on show.

I’ve collected many pictures of the day and if you’d like to see more, just get in touch, but the one I’ve chosen to attach had to be the moment our fearless (some might say mad) Freedom crew crossed the line first against the mighty Pilot Gig

If you haven’t already tried rowing, do get in touch. There’s so many fun, leisurely, and competitive adventures coming up this year now is definitely the time to start.

Club Hire Season Tickets Under Development

To keep members in the loop the sailing committee are in the process of setting up season tickets for the hire of the club dinghies, kayaks and rowing gigs. Pricing and details will be sent out once it has all been finalised. But at this stage it is looking highly likely that there will be a season ticket for each section (I.E. single handed dinghy, double handed dinghy, rowing gig seat, kayak seat). It is also looking like an overall season ticket that covers every section will be available. All bookings will remain on a first come first served basis regardless of if you have a season ticket or not.

TSC CCTV Policy

I’m sure you’ve noticed our new CCTV system which has been installed at the club. We hope it will help protect property belonging to TSC and members alike. I’ve attached a document which outlines our CCTV policy and how images are captured, stored, accessed and disclosed in order to improve security whilst still protecting the privacy of our members. Also attached is a CCTV image request form to seek access to images under certain, limited and legitimate criteria. All the best
