HSSC RNSA Summer Series Race 1

From Ric Hanslip. The forecast was for the 10 knot Westerly breeze to fade totally as the evening wore on, common Summer conditions. The SOOD therefore opted for a short course twice round with an option to shorten to one round if the breeze failed. A run from the first turning mark Greenings Fin Tech to Baker Trayte Marine and a beat back, twice round.

Social Events Update

Firstly i would like to say a huge thank you to all the organisers and volunteers that helped to make the clubs open day on Sunday a huge success. It was lovely to see the club so full of people eating, drinking, chatting, laughing, back to socialising as we should be, and enjoying ourselves out on the water. Well done to all of you involved.

Curry & Quiz Night – 10th June

Come along Friday evening and enjoy a chicken korma or chicken balti along with rice, poppadom and naan. Vegetarian option available.

We will be having a fun quiz tonight, so get your teams together!

Food will be served from 6.30, quiz will start at around 7.30

Please book on WebCollect:

https://webcollect.org.uk/tudorsc/event/curry-quiz

Knotty Night – 17th June

Don’t forget to book your places for our ‘Knotty Night’.

This will be our first ‘seamanship’ evening of the year, and an opportunity to practice all the essential knots you need to stay safe and secure when afloat. With so much experience in the club we’re delighted that three of our seasoned members who’ve been tying knots for years have volunteered to come along and teach.

You’ll learn your Bowline and your Reef Knot. And maybe your Clove Hitch from your Round Turn and Two Half Hitches.

Before you start practising you can enjoy a ploughmans supper served from 6pm, and the bar will be open.

Every knot serves a purpose, and knowing how to tie a selection is vital knowledge to possess when going on the water. Ropes and knots have a unique and ancient history and without them sailing would never have developed into the pastime that we love today.

This will be a fun evening for newer members, but we’d be delighted if long-standing members came along too to pass on knowledge and join in the fun.

There is no need to eat to participate, but please book if you fancy coming along to give us an idea on numbers

Raring to Row for 24 hours 1st -2nd July

Watch out, I will be accosting people to purchase raffle tickets, and I would be grateful if anyone has anything they would be happy to donate to the raffle.

Let’s try and make as much money as possible for this amazing children’s charity! Action Medical Research for Children

On the afternoon of 2nd July we will draw the raffle, the bar will be open and food will be available, so please come along and cheer the exhausted rowers in!

I hope the sun shines and you all enjoy the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Ebb & Flow:

A quick link to a QHM LNtM regarding history vessels departing Portsmouth on Sunday 5th June. It appears they will be accompanied out of the harbour by a Hurricane – I suspect it will have to make a few passes or it will be long gone before the boats get very far! – either that or give them a sizeable head start! Details at:

https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/QHM/Portsmouth/Local-Notices/LNTM/2022/2258-HISTORIC-VESSELS-DEPARTURE-5-JUN-22

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Let’s be careful out there.

Closure This club has now been permanently closed after it was placed in administration. The closure is blamed on dwindling membership and a shortage of funds. The club is up for sale.
