Waiting for the Tide

This is often a quiet Tidal Diamond, events have been publicised and booked (just the New Year one to go), the AGM reminder is the key item (10th January, details no doubt coming soon via WebCollect), and Icicle series is soon to start (although that’s in doubt this year given the current restrictions).

This year, not for the first time, I’ll turn to the RYA for some interesting content:

First for the dinghy sailors there’s the Virtual RYA Dinghy Show on 27th and 28th February, more details at:

https://www.rya.org.uk/newsevents/news/Pages/Join-us-at-the-virtual-Dinghy-Show!.aspx

Then for the cruiser sailors there’s the Cruising Conference 2021 on 21st March, more details at:

https://www.rya.org.uk/newsevents/events/Pages/cruising-conference-2021.aspx

Then for everyone (although possibly most relevant to the cruiser sailors) there’s the RYA end of year statement on Brexit at:

https://www.rya.org.uk/newsevents/news/Pages/brexit-where-things-stand-for-recreational-boaters.aspx

To round things off I hope everyone had a safe Christmas. It is nearly time to bid 2020 a not so fond farewell, and hope that as 2021 progresses things start to look up.

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address if you feeling isolated and cut off from the world, even though this lockdown is slightly different things are far from normal. It is always nice to hear from members, and any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Stay safe.

Hampshire Police – helping us stay marine secure

Hampshire Police’s Marine Unit is there to support neighbourhood policing on the water and carry out intelligence-led patrols to tackle serious and organised crime. They have a Facebook page Hampshire Police Marine Support Unit – Home | Facebook for the more IT savvy of us to keep in touch with the marine crime updates and latest advice.

More information on the unit and how to avoid being a victim of Marine crime is shown on the Hampshire Constabulary website https://www.hampshire.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/mc/marine-crime/ which includes a link to a NO VALUABLES LEFT ABOARD sign you can display on your boat.

Remember, if a crime is in progress or there is a threat to life always dial 999. For non-emergencies please report online (www.hampshire.police.uk) or dial 101. Any comments / replies posted outside of regular duty hours may not be seen by police staff until the next working day. In addition, please always let Tudor Sailing Club Exec know of any losses or crimes to your vessel.

Waiting for the Tide

Well Tier 3 didn’t last long did it, one whole day and we are in the previously unheard of Tier 4! This leaves most of us cut off from the club, even those of us in Tier 4 as well, but in neighbouring Havant, as it seems moving between different Tier 4 areas is not allowed. Hopefully things will improve as we get further into 2021. Initially I suspect we will still be restricted, although I don’t have a crystal ball handy, as such there is a good chance the Icicle series will be impacted. For now though I’ve left the dates below, but with a TBC status until we know more – a lot can change in a day it seems, let alone a month! There is still the AGM to look forward to though, that will be virtual and on 10th January.

Continuing on the virtual theme, a club member passed on details of the WEA virtual Christmas Day activities that may be of interest to anyone feeling isolated. It is free and on Zoom (isn’t everything at the moment) and includes a virtual walk, carols, crafts, a quiz and other activities. I have attached a list of times for each event, but details can also be found at: https://www.wea.org.uk/christmasday.

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address if you feeling isolated and cut off from the world, even though this lockdown is slightly different things are far from normal. It is always nice to hear from members, and any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.
