24 – 30 May is ‘Invasive Species Week.

Can you identify these invasive species ? he spread of non-native invasive species is becoming a major issue in both the marine and inland waters around the UK. This is because the invasive species compete with our native plants and wildlife, introduce diseases and cause major changes to entire ecosystems.

Callout for Patrol Boat Helm and Crew – Sunday July 4th 2021

The TSC rowers have entered the 2021 ECA annual Cockleshell Trophy event taking place on July 4th. This is a trophy our rowers have won 3 years in a row from its conception. Our rowers are currently the guardians of the trophy.

We need a crew to man the patrol boat during the event, so if you are trained and looking to complete some of your hours, the opportunities are now available to sign up for on Dutyman.

The running order for July 4th will be

  • Arrive at TSC approx 8am where rowers will assist with launch of patrol boat.
  • A briefing at 10am at ECA
  • Race start at 11am
  • Race finish by 2pm
  • So it’s estimated you will be required from 8am to 2.30pm, but we will confirm the start time nearer the day.

Any questions on the dutyman entry please contact duties

Any questions on the event please contact rowing

Bottle Boat Race and Bar Reopening Event

The 22nd May is the first bar service of the year, so why not come down and reconnect with friends?

Form a team of up to 6 (or one household/bubble)*, and put your design and build skills to the test!

The challenge: Build a boat from an empty formula tin, capable of not only floating, but carrying a precious cargo back to shore as fast as possible from a launch point, keeping the cargo intact and dry.

The afternoon will start with a fun auction, where teams can bid to trade build time extra materials, then its scissors and sticky tape at the ready as teams craft their fantastic floating creations.

Once the build time ends, we will take the creations upwind, and let them go, racing back towards the shore. Points will be awarded by our expert judging panel for the following:

  • Design
  • Aesthetics
  • Speed
  • Stability
  • Cargo condition

The winning team will win a small prize.

Each team table will have a small complementary assortment of our new bar food range to try, and there will also be up to 50% off bottled beers and ciders

£5 entry per team to cover materials used.

Event now live on Webcollect!

* may be subject to change, pending government announcements.

Waiting for the Tide

First this week an offer of some free items:

Many of you who knew my Dad Mark Wilshaw will remember how he’d never throw anything away or turn down a 2nd hand boat donation ? … we thought we’d offer it back.

Currently we have –

  • a Standard GE1500 plus extra transmitter handset. It was receiving but not transmitting.
  • also a bag of spare lines due upgrades from mast rerigging.

I have left in an orange Sainsbury’s bag in the boat shed on the RHS.

For any takers – a voluntary donation to the club would be welcomed – am sure there will be other items as we clear out over the coming season.

Happy Sailing
Helen & Mike (Bagpuss)

Second item, for those on the water, QHM have issued a notice about Horse Sand Fort being unlit. I’ve not yet seen a cancellation of this, so details can be found at:

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address if you feeling isolated and cut off from the world. It is always nice to hear from members, and any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Stay safe.
