Cruiser Racing
Calling all Cruiser Sailors. This Thursday will be Race 3 of the Gales series, 1900 start, hopefully it’s third time lucky as the first two races have been postponed due to high winds.
Following on from this race we have the Riley Trophy (round the island anti clockwise) on Saturday. Please find attached the sailing instructions (also can be found on the website), it is a self-start race with HW Saturday being around 0840, a signing on sheet will be displayed on the Cruiser notice board from Thursday evening.

Low Water Dinghy Cruise – Saturday
This Saturday is the first dinghy cruise of the year, aptly named ‘Low Water Cruise’ since it takes place across low water in the harbour. I hope that we will be able to include the interesting sail up Sinah Lake (which starts at the Hayling Island Ferry pontoon) to have a look at the wrecked landing craft before continuing on up the narrow channel of Rod Rythe which emerges near Rod buoy (note, you may need to raise board and rudder a little to navigate this, you have been warned!) We will have a briefing beforehand on the route but if you are not familiar with these channels then, for interest, you might like to have a look at ‘Chart – Whole Harbour 2021’ on the club website ‘Useful Documents’ page which shows the location of the Landing Craft. I hope to include a stop on Sword and/or Sinah Sands for biscuits and drinks (if you have brought anything!)
There will be a briefing at 1300 before we go so please arrive with plenty of time to have lunch and rig beforehand. Please remember that the current guidelines permit the toilets to be used but not the changing rooms. If you have any questions please email the dinghy captain at dinghies.
Lets’s hope for good weather, see you on Saturday.

Sunday 6th June, Paddle to the Pub – Ferryboat Inn
Come along and join other TSC paddlers for a paddle to the pub. We will paddle down, haul out on the beach then have a drink and a picnic. This is a longer paddle but still achievable for a strong novice. The event will not run if the wind is strong as paddling in high wind is not fun….
Bring a mask, a mobile, some money and anything else for a longer day out on the water.
Under 16’s must be accompanied by a parent / guardian / other agreed adult.
Event is free, but please sign up in advance so we know who to expect.
PLEASE ARRIVE IN PLENTY OF TIME TO LAUNCH AT 1200

Waiting for the Tide
Last week (yes, I missed it, the RYA email arrived too late for the Tidal Diamond), was Invasive Species Week. Did you know that invasive animal and plant species are one of the top five highest risks to global and UK biodiversity? For example, the zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha) is an invasive species which can be found in British waterways, although it is believed not to be in the South region yet. The mussels disrupt ecosystems by killing off local mussels and damaging marine infrastructure such as harbour walls, slipways and boats. As they can be transported from place to place by hitching a ride on boat hulls, anchors and propellers it is important that boats, trailers along with anything that has been in the water are inspected and thoroughly cleaned before being placed in a new location. Learn more about how to stop non-native species from invading our local waters with The Green Blue http://rya.org/6oTb50ETPUJ
As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address. No need to be feeling isolated and cut off from the world to do so, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.
Stay safe.
