We will have eton mess too if you prefer and the bar will be open for when your prosecco runs dry.

Kayak Storage

I would like to apologise for the ongoing challenges with kayak storage; I am hopeful that we will have much improved facilities within a couple of weeks.

As soon as the new facilities are available, I will mark out the spaces, and allocate them to all of the booked kayaks. Whilst some are well marked, many others are very difficult to identify – could I ask all kayak owners (other than those kept on their dinghies) to drop me an email ideally with a photo to let me know where your kayak is currently stored.

If anyone has any special requirements, please let me know and I will do what I can to accommodate them.

Whilst clearing the inner compound yesterday, a sail cover and a white paddle were found on the inner compound kayak rack – if anyone is missing them please let me know and I will put you in touch the member that is looking after them.

Introduction to Rowing Sessions

Over the last couple of months the rowing section has been proactively promoting the benefits of rowing. It’s a great way to stay fit (much more fun than going to a gym!) learn about our beautiful harbour and just be out on the water in good company! It’s been wonderful to welcome so many members.

Whether an occasional novice or a complete beginner the experienced rowers in the section have been volunteering to help coach anyone who wants to try it out or improve their technique. (Thank you chaps, we appreciate you juggle other commitments to do this). This helps new rowers get to a level where they can take the club boats out whenever they want to, or join in scheduled weekly rowing sessions, or team up with other.

If you’ve got a more competitive streak now is also the perfect time to join us and be race ready this time next year when (hopefully) the annual rowing races around the harbour will resume.

There is a great camaraderie and support within the rowing group and all are welcome to join us

If you want to have a go during the remainder of the summer get in touch with me and I can book you in for a taster session

Waiting for the Tide

I think I’m going to use this section to say a big thank you to all the committee members, and some non committee members too, who are putting so much effort into putting together an impressive variety of activities as the restrictions ease. Not to forget, of course, those organising all the work that needs to be done to keep things running as smoothly as possible as chaos reigns around us with the sea defence work and slip sharing. In many cases these are the same people, so it is worth remembering that we are a self help club and the more helping the lighter the load.

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address. No need to be feeling isolated and cut off from the world to do so, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Let’s be careful out there.

Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour reopens

£2m improvements have been made Buckler's Hard Yacht Harbour on the Beaulieu River, which first opened in 1971, has now reopened following a redevelopment programme costing £2m. As a result, the marina now has 66 new berths (including larger berths to suit vessels up to 20m) and walk ashore pontoons.

Cruising in France ?

New form to be submitted Since the end of the Brexit transition on 31 December 2020, sailors have had to sail to one of a small number of Ports of Entry, mainly ferry ports, and search out the relevant authorities (usually the Police aux Frontieres) to register the arrival of their boat and crew. This same process has been necessary before departing France for the UK, Channel Islands or any non-Schengen country.
