Tidal Diamond 409 – Racing Updates

Tidal Diamond No. 409

Sunday Series 5 race and Willson and Glanville Handicap Trophies

The Willson (Fast) and Glanville (Slow) trophies had been scheduled to be awarded to the winners of the fast and slow handicap races (respectively) for Sunday 3 on Sunday 10 August and then again for Sunday 4 on Sunday 17 August. Unfortunately the weather was too bad for the race to go on both occasions. We will therefore try again and award these trophies for the winners of the fast and slow handicap of the Sunday 5 race on Sunday 31 August. Please come along and sail.

Many thanks

Sandie Parker

Cowes Week – SB20

This year the RNSA Sports boat, Sail Navy, was entered as an entirely youth team for Cowes Week. The week allowed the team to develop their racing knowledge and teamwork, the culmination of the work being a win on the last race of the week. For the SB20 fleet the first four days of the regatta were a Grand Slam event and therefore while the other fleets only did one race a day the SB20s did two.

Branch Cruise to the River Deben and Woodbridge

The highlight of the 2014 season was an effort to show the Essex members the delights of a Suffolk River. One of two with a bar and special local chartlets entry is infrequently attempted. The Branch has had a particular busy Bank Holiday weekend with its River Deben challenge. With a tidal gate at We were able to entertain the crew of HMS Gleaner once they had laid the survey vessel up so they could depart on summer leave.

Portland Series 2 Final race.

Lovely conditions to finish with. A NW force 3 and a similar, but shorter, course as last week. The pre-start was eventful as the Red Arrows shot across the harbour in close formation as the course was being announced, with all including the RO being distracted from the task in hand. Stephen then pointed out that a boat had anchored virtually on the start line, but this was ok with everybody having to decide which side of the anchored boat they would go.

Island Cup

Looking good for the Island Cup tomorrow. Briefing at 10:00 in the Clubhouse, start at 10:30. Don't forget to take a mobile phone with you (this is mandatory).
