Cruiser Break-ins
There have been a recent series of break-ins to cruisers on moorings, including at Porchester and Hill Head Sailing Clubs. In each case, a lot of mindless damage was done to the boat and things were thrown overboard with nothing apparently being stolen. Tenders stolen from the clubs were used to access the cruisers.
Any member seeing any suspicious activity should report it to the Police by calling 101.
Also, all cruiser members please make your tenders as secure as possible by not leaving bungs in the boat and by locking the oars to the boat, if they are left on the tender.

Dutyman
We have been advised that Dutyman have been having issues with their hardware and have taken Dutyman offline for 48 hours to fix the problems. This means that we don’t have access to either the bar/galley or sailing Dutyman but it is out of our control. We are expected to see it back up again by the end of Wednesday.

Tudor Sailing Club Open Day, Saturday 13th May – Help Needed
Following our great event last year TSC are holding an open day on Saturday 13th May (aka Push the Boat Out / PTBO). There is a poster attached if members would like to print and put up at work, please spread the word around the local area. Prospective members that sign up on the day will not have to pay the usual joining fee. We need lots of volunteers to assist in various roles, examples are below:
- Conducting tours of the club
- Car park marshalling
- Taking people out on the water in dinghies / cruisers
- Boats that we can borrow for the day to take prospective members out in (we will put in an experienced sailor) – good boats would be Visions, wanderers, wayfarers etc.
- Loans of sit on kayaks / SUP’s for the day
- People to rig boats such as Oppies / Fevas / Teras
- Help on BBQ and bar
If you can spare some time to help make the open day a success (and increase our membership) then please get in touch.

Gig Rowing
This coming Saturday 6th May the Gig will be on the water for an Easy Rowing session at 1000hrs. These sessions are open to all club members and will only last approx. 30 minutes on the water. They are for a bit of nautical fun. Kit needed: A buoyancy aid of some sort, wet boots or wellies, gloves and a windcheater over some layers.
Any members who have tried the Gig and would like to engage in a regular weekly row please email me and I will put your name on our core regulars email group.

Cockleshell Challenge
There should be lots of activity at this event and we ought to be able to sport at least one ladies crew and a male one to back them up! Obviously there will be us regular rowers to support any novices who want some fun particularly on the Saturday races. They are planning a Sunday race round the fort which we regular rowers will undertake to defend the honour of the club. If you fancy a bash email me. See also the attached invitation for more details.

Langstone Harbour Race Weekend shore based coordinator
27th – 29th May is the LHRW which is our biggest racing event in the calendar. An important role is the shore based coordinator who mans the radio at the club during the racing to communicate with the Race Officer and Patrol Boats about numbers of boats launched and then ensuring that everyone makes it home after racing. You may also get involved in helping out with recording some results (no special training required for this!). If you would like to take on this role for one or more days of the race weekend, please let me know.

Cadets
Given that some external people get confused about what our Cadets Section is (some assume it is linked to CCF), we are going to start changing how we refer to it and will link into a bit of Portsmouth history and will start to refer to this section internally as the Mudlarks. Externally (ie on the website) we will refer to this as our Junior section.
The Mudlarks will be split into two groups; the Seals and the Starfish. To help the Mudlarks team on Wednesday evenings, Zosia Pilsworth and Thalia Burke have been elected joint captains of the Seals and Caleb Adams has been elected as Captain of the Starfish with Paul Skinner as Vice Captain.
Everything on Wednesdays goes much more smoothly when everyone lends a hand so we will be publishing a list of jobs to be done each Wednesday. These include Boat rigging, Patrol boat (Tudor qualifications required), Trolley moving, preparing and serving hot dogs etc. If you have a particular preference, please let me know or sign up on the Mudlarks board in the club entrance hall. During mid summer, when quite a few people are absent due to family holidays, please consider switching around roles to fill in for others, thank you.
Finally, and most importantly, parents must accept that they have to be present whilst their children are sailing or have a defined person who will act in loco parentis. Please do not ask myself or any of the Mudlark team to take on this responsibility as we cannot take on responsibility for individual children whilst also running the whole session. Please note that this is not a personal request from me but are the terms under which the Exec have defined that our Junior sessions should run, in line with safeguarding principles defined by the RYA.

Tour a 70’ Clipper Round the World Yacht
In August this year, I will be sailing from Liverpool to Brazil on leg 1 of the Clipper Round the World yacht race. Later in the year I will offer to give a talk to the club one Friday evening to share my adventure but if anyone is interested, two Clipper 70’s will be moored at Gunwharf Quays on 20th May for free tours between 0900 and 1900. I believe they will also be there on the Sunday until 1600. (https://www.clipperroundtheworld.com/events-calendar/event/free-open-boat-tours2).
