Friendly Friday

We will be serving food at this week’s Friendly Friday from 1930 until everyone is off the water. Cask ales will also be available from the bar alongside the usual range of refreshments.

Round Hayling Cruise, 11am Sunday 2nd July

This cruise is the reason why I joined this club. It captured my and my son’s imagination when chatting to members and it hasn’t disappointed each time I have done it!

In brief, we will leave Tudor at 11am, sailing out through the harbour entrance and, having cleared the spit, turning left to sail along the length of Hayling Island before turning left again into Chichester Harbour. We sail past HISC and pull up on their beach to eat our lunch whilst waiting for the tide to start coming up.

After lunch, we continue up Chichester Harbour, heading up past Northney Marina aiming to Hayling Bridge. Here, we either capsize boats to walk them under the bridge or those who can do so drop their masts.

Once all assembled on the Langstone side of the bridge, we then head back home across Langstone Harbour.

The cruise will be led by Paul Rivington who will run a briefing at 10:45 on the slipway. You should be rigged and ready to launch BEFORE the briefing so that we can launch straight after it. You are out for several hours so please dress appropriately. You can bring extra kit with you (and your lunch) as the ribs can carry anything you don’t want on your dinghy.

This is classed as a higher risk event so there will be two ribs with us. This also means that it is not appropriate for inexperienced single handers. It is also not a good cruise to do if you haven’t properly maintained your rigging. You are a long way from home if you lose your mast outside Chichester entrance. Please note that Paul has the support of the Sailing Committee to politely decline the participation of anyone who is not deemed to be a confident enough sailor or whose dinghy is not considered seaworthy enough. Please respect his decision on this.

It’s a great achievement to arrive back at Tudor having completed this cruise so do come and join us. If you have any questions about it, please send them to myself or Richard Barnes.

Upcoming Cruises

Here are details of the next three cruises:

8th July – Bembridge Cruise

Sail to Bembridge and moor at St. Helens marina, optional walk on Sunday morning before leaving.

HW Bembridge on Saturday 8th is 12:30 and on Sunday 9th is 13:10.

For anyone who can go early and arrive on Friday 7th, there will be an optional walk on Saturday; unfortunately I will not be able to arrive until Saturday, so you will need to organise your own walk, sorry about that.

22nd July – Summer Cruise to the West Country

This is a two week cruise to Dartmouth and hopefully as far as Plymouth; more details will follow next week.

For those who want to go farther and have three weeks to spare, Roger Smith is leaving a week earlier and hopes to get to Fowey and join the main cruise on the way back.

25th August – Swanwick / Hythe Cruise including Bursledon Regatta Fireworks

Due to the tides, this really needs us to sail to Universal Marina on the afternoon of Friday 25th (leave at about 14:00), Saturday there will be an optional walk and then we can watch the Bursledon Regatta fireworks in the evening.

On Sunday we sail to Hythe Marina and then depart on the Monday morning to sail back to Langstone Harbour.

We currently have 6 spaces booked at Universal and Hythe Marinas; please let me know ASAP if you want to come, as we may be able to book additional spaces if we do it soon. You will NOT be able to come if you do not book, as these marinas will be full that weekend.

I will be at the club this Friday evening (30th June) from about 21:00 if you would like to discuss any of these cruises.

Summer is here so why not tell Ebb & Flow about how your sailing is going. Don’t be shy! Patrol Boat Training

I have had a good response to our PB training and we only have two slots remaining.

• We have a PB2 session available at 7pm on Friday 7th July
• We have a PB1 session available at 6:30pm on Friday 21st July

Once these courses are complete, we will have trained up another 15 PB helm and crew so we will probably not be holding further training sessions until the Autumn (which, realistically, means that these Autumn courses are preparing for the 2018/19 duty season).

If you would like to fill either of these remaining slots, please let me know.

Cadets on the Water Galley Duties

To avoid potential confusion and to ensure duties are properly recorded against your maintenance requirement all Galley Duties for Cadets on the water will now be managed by Duty Man alongside the usual bar and galley duties.

Please login to the Duty Man system to volunteer for these duties, or email me if you require an account to be created.

If you have completed a galley duty and want retrospective credit for it please email me and I shall amend the record accordingly.
