Tudor SC Regatta Weekend
Saturday 9th September / Sunday 10th September

Our club regatta weekend is fast approaching, and we would like to invite all members to come and participate in a fun weekend on the water.

Cruiser Racing – There will be 2 races, 1 on the Saturday and 1 on the Sunday, with both races counting towards a 2 race regatta series.

Dinghy Racing – The club dinghy racing will take place on Saturday 9th September. There will be 3 short races, of approximately 30-45 minutes in duration, run from the club committee boat. The courses will be simple, sausage or triangles. Experienced youth sailors are encouraged to participate in the club dinghy races as well the junior races on the Sunday.

Junior (Mudlarks) Racing – The club dinghy racing will take place on Saturday 9th September. There will be 3 short races, of approximately 30-45 minutes in duration, run from the club committee boat. The courses will be simple, sausage or triangles.

There will be a BBQ after the sailing on both days, with a fine selection of drinks from the Bar (as usual), and a prize giving ceremony on each day, once the results have been processed.

Sailing Instructions for the event are attached to this tidal diamond and also available on the club’s website.

If you have any questions, please contact Richard Barnes (see below).

Barts Bash 2017
Sunday 17 September, 09:45

Bart’s Bash, launched in 2014, is the world’s largest sailing event that is run by sailing clubs, community sailing programmes, sail training centres, yacht clubs, scout groups, sea cadets and even groups of sailors, all around the world.

The main aims of the event are to increase international awareness of participation in sailing, and to raise funds for the Foundation to help support a range of sustainable projects, using sailing to improve the lives of children and young people globally.

  • Barts Bash is open to all members of Tudor Sailing Club, young & old!
  • It is a FUN race
  • It does not matter if you have never raced before – this is a great opportunity to learn.
  • It is a very simple course, held in front of the club house

A briefing will be given before the race, so if you are new to racing, you can ask lots of questions to help you get started.

We ask all competitors to pre-register your entry by clicking on the website link below:

Open Forum Volunteers

On the 12th October Tudor is hosting an Open Forum for the Langstone Harbour Board Advisory Committee. Club members are invited to attend, and I will be providing more details in a later TD. At the moment I am looking for a couple of volunteers to help serve tea and coffee in the refreshment break, and if anyone is available to have the bar open as well that would be even better. The event runs from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. In addition to my Charman’s introduction there will be talks from Southern Water on the “Bathing Water Enhancement Programme“, the Hampshire and IoW Wildlife Trust on “Milton Locks Nature Reserve” and Natural England on “The proposed Coastal Path“, so it should be an interesting evening and the only ‘work’ is during a short refreshment break mid way through.

If you can help out please contact me at the email address below, or this TD address.

Combined Harbour Regatta

Club members wishing to attend the Combined Harbour Regatta, this coming Saturday (9th) may wish to read the following Emil sent by PSC.

Coming up this weekend, Saturday will see the Combined Harbour Regatta which includes our friends from Clubs around the harbour – in particular Hardway and Fareham as part of the Portsmouth Harbour Interclub series along with the Victory and Squib classes and others from Portsmouth.  As if this isn’t enough on its own to get everyone out sailing, the event this year also takes in Bart’s Bash, raising money for the Andrew Simpson Foundation. This is the only Bart’s Bash sailing event in Portsmouth this year and we have special dispensation to host it a week earlier than the other events around the world!

Please can I also ask that you sign up on the Bart’s Bash website (www.bartsbash.com )  – as I type this email, PSC is 10th on the list of Clubs – it would be great to get to the top by Saturday….. The Andrew Simpson Foundation is also running an on-line auction (https://www.bartsbashauction.com/lite-ui/#home ) – another excellent way to give a bit to the Foundation.

We have lined up some spectacular prizes: a range of Rooster equipment for all trophy positions; For cruisers, a lift and scrub at Trafalgar Wharf as well as 2 x one year Pro subscription Predictwind.com licenses for weather forecasting and routing – all in addition to a great range of engraved trophies.

Racing is scheduled to start at 11:55 with a Committee boat start and finish with an aim to have everyone ashore by 16:00 for prize -giving and a great social event.

We are expecting to start Cruisers, Victory Keelboat Class, Squibs, Dinghies and Toppers as separate classes in a schedule as shown on the Race Instructions which are available on the PSC web site www.portchestersc.org  Please make sure you have read them thoroughly!

A BBQ will be available at certain times but at 16:00 a Hog roast will be served for the hungry sailors (and race officers!) with the BBQ taking over again if needed.  We are planning a real ale extravaganza with great discounts along with free squash for kids and as many offers as we can arrange. Tickets for the Hog Roast and BBQ will be on sale during the afternoon along with raffle tickets to win bottles of wine.

The evening band is scheduled to start after the prize-giving taking us ‘till late so let’s make this an event the whole Harbour will be talking about for the next three years when it will be our turn to host again!

Very special thanks go to for Marine Superstore, Trafalgar Wharf, Rooster, Powerworks and others for generous contributions to the cause and  allowing us to put on such a special event.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Club on Saturday.

 Kind Regards,

 Andy Pidduck.
