Tidal Diamond 594 – Bar Opening Hours, Open Forum, Gig Rowing

Tidal Diamond No. 594

Bar Opening Hours

As another sailing season ends the bar opening times have been reduced to the “Winter Season” times:

Sunday 1200 to 1300
Wednesday 1900 to 2030 – Last Wednesday of the month only for Cadets
Friday 1930 to 2200

Bar duties will start 15 minutes before and finish 15 minutes later than the times indicated to allow time for setup and clear down.

The bar may be opened by any bar-trained member outside of these times within the constraints of our licence, currently 1000 through to 0300. For such occasions there is an “honesty box” (pint glass underneath the optics) in place to avoid having to use the till.

Advisory Committee Open Forum

Tudor is hosting the Langstone Harbour Board Advisory Committee Open Forum on Thursday 12th October. This is an evening of talks aimed at stakeholders and members of the public wishing to learn more about the harbour and its management. It runs from 19:30 – 21:30 and we have talks from Southern Water (Bathing Water Enhancement Programme), Hampshire Wildlife Trust (Milton Locks Nature Reserve) and Natural England (The proposed Coastal Path). Please see the attached poster for more details. If you could let myself or the Harbour Board know you would like to attend this will help us get an idea of numbers.

Rowing for pleasure with “Rosie”

The rowing section now has a regular Male Cadet rowing team and we are now forming up a Female Cadet team, currently we have 2 members (Ella Williams and Danni Francis) so there is room for a third. Email me if you would like to have a go. Generally speaking the ideal arrangement for regular rowers is a team of 3, the greatest pleasure is obtained when the 3 become accustomed to each other coupled with a reasonable technique. Just half a dozen outings can produce this situation and from then on it becomes a regular activity that one looks forward to and it is all year round fun. Rowing is for everybody, young or old and of any capability it is a fantastic all over exercise routine, particularly strengthening the back, shoulders and Pelvic regions.

“Rosie” is now in use with regular rowers each week and we are always seeking to include more people to make the rostering easier, particularly if you are retired and can fit in weekdays. We always have a laugh and we row in a most beautiful harbour that will “feed your soul”. I would urge every club member to consider building it into your weekly routine, within weeks you will know the difference and after 6 months you will be a significantly fitter person, if you doubt what I say then talk to the guys I regularly row with. Stop thinking “I cannot go rowing because I have THIS to do” and start thinking “I cannot do THIS because I am going rowing”.

Kit needed: A buoyancy aid of some sort, wet boots or wellies, gloves and a windcheater over some layers.

J70 Development Weekend

The weekend of 16-17 Sep saw the second running of a combined sailing development weekend with the Royal Yacht Squadron. Our Chairman/Vice Commodore led a 6 strong team and linked up with a similar sized Squadron group to undergo some intense and really fun training in J70s. The weekend included a mix of shore based instruction covering tactics and tuning, coach led exercises on the water, fleet racing and team racing.
