Furuno FS-1550 SSB radio transceiver

For sale Furuno FS-1550 SSB radio transceiver. Seems fully working, but no aerial connection to test reception. With trunnion mount, handset, manual and antenna junction box. We’ve no intention to circumnavigate yet, so if this would help someone going long-distance, better it gets used. Happy to discuss price on viewing.

Boxing Day Race

This year’s Boxing Day race will start at the club line at 11am. Unfortunately this will be 2 hours after low water but will mean a more sociable time to be out racing after the festive overindulging.

For this race to go ahead we need a trained up patrol boat crew and helm to volunteer via dutyman. Hopefully the weather will be favourable on the day for a festive race.

Saturday Gig Fun

It’s a good job the seals weren’t out on Saturday afternoon to see the not very serious antics, but what brilliant sports you all were.

The cold wind had no impact on the relay rowing crews but not sure the spectators would say the same.

With the force 5+ from the North West, the run down to the return mark (the first starboard buoy) was quite easy but the return leg seriously tested the power of the bow oar with at least one boat having to swap crew around as the rudder was overwhelmed.

It was great to have some kayaks out too, and (Santa) hats off to them on the paddle back.

Team Olive won overall. This may have been partly due to one crew member being seen rummaging in the dressing up box before the race started ? Team Freedom joined the finish 25 seconds later despite their rather clever (and annoying ?) undercut of us at the buoy. Team Rosie took another 10 minutes or so, but they deserve extra points for stopping to recover their Santa hat from polluting our beautiful harbour.

A huge heartfelt thank you to each of you that helped with the fabulous buffet and bar. It was all wonderful.

A couple of pictures are attached and if you follow the club on Facebook do take a look at the video posted on Saturday ?

Keep an eye on the calendar as we plan to have a full agenda of serious and not so serious rowing events next year for everyone at the club to enjoy. As always if you’ve not rowed before and want to join our fun, do get in touch.

In case I don’t write again this month, wishing each of you a peaceful, happy, healthy Christmas.

Waiting for the Tide

It’s that time of year when content gets a bit thin on the ground. Thankfully there’s a reasonably steady flow of things coming through, but I still have to think of something to add here, so a couple of things spring to mind:

  • cruiser owners, don’t forget that the jet washing season finishes at the end of the month (not that it’s the best weather to be doing that sort of work, so I hope everyone has already done it)
  • a note for everyone’s diary (see also Diary Dates below) is the 9th January 2022 (we’re nearly there) for the Tudor AGM

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Let’s be careful out there.
