Cowes Ferry Terminal

Planning permission granted Planning inspectors have now given Red Funnel approval to replace its existing East Cowes terminal and nearby buildings, along with up to 100 homes. This follows a three day appeal against Isle of Wight Council's refusal to grant permission to Red Funnel's controversial multi-million pound plan for its East Cowes Terminal.

Get into Print!

That’s another year almost over. Rather than watching adverts for Christmas food and gifts, why not put pen to paper – or fingers to keyboard – and write a contribution for the winter issue of Ebb & Flow. Don’t wait until the new year to make a resolution to write for the magazine, let’s hear what you were doing out on the water in 2017. There must be some sailing stories out there that deserve a wider audience so please get in touch – anything sailing (or vaguely) sailing-related is welcome. Cadets and new members are encouraged to contribute as well as those who have been “floating around” for longer.

Please send your contributions to me at the address below.

Patrol Boat Training

We currently have a long list of members who have requested training for our PB1 course which is great to see. Please note that we are running two training sessions in December however these will be focussed on upgrading existing PB1 crews to Tudor PB2 helm. Once we have done this, we will then look to run some courses in the New Year to train up some more PB1 people so please look out for an email or Tidal Diamond advertising these courses. (Please note that these two PB2 courses are already fully booked with a waiting list as well).

However I would like to be transparent about one thing. We currently have 17 people requesting PB1. To be honest, it is unlikely that we will train this many people before or during the first half of next season. It is not necessary for us to train that number of people and, given our limited training resource, I don’t want to over extend our goodwill there. These PB1 courses will be run on a first come first served basis so I just want to bring to your attention that you should perhaps also be considering other roles to fulfil your duty obligations. I appreciate that this will be disappointing if you don’t manage to get trained on Patrol Boats as soon as you want but I hope you appreciate the practicality behind this.
