2018 Tudor Dinghy Handicaps
The dinghy handicaps for this season are now published, with copies available at the club and also on the website (in the documents area):

Thank-you to Ian Tonge for his hard work putting these figures together – it is a mammoth task!
The Tudor Handicap System follows the RYA handicap adjustment method, with a few tweaked variables. The system uses club racing data from the previous 2 sailing seasons to adjust handicap numbers for each class. If there is not enough data for a class, the club uses the published RYA number for that year.
Trafalgar Pursuit Race – Saturday 31st March, 12:00
The first race of the season will be the Trafalgar Pursuit Race, with the first start scheduled for the Gull class, at 12:00, with the race duration lasting for 100 minutes. A list of class start times are available using the link below (any classes not on the list can be added on the day). The start line is likely to be from a committee boat, stationed close to the club house. A flip chart will be used on the committee boat to display the time offset.

The sailing instructions for the event can be found on our club website:

If you have not participated in a pursuit race before, there will be expert advice available to you, both at the Friendly Friday session on the previous evening, and also before the race on the Saturday.
In short – boats start at different times depending on your handicap, with the slower classes setting off first and faster classes chasing them down. The race is run for a set time period, and positions are recorded after this time period has elapsed, wherever you might be on the race course. In summary, it takes the normal ‘handicap style’ race and turns it on its head.
