Women on the Water – Thursday 5th July
Just a reminder about the next WOW session which is taking place this week. Everyone welcome regardless of ability, all you need is fun attitude.
I have booked 10 Stand up paddle boards from ASWC. They centre have let me have the kit for free so I would suggest a donation to ASSF would be a good way of saying thank you.
*****IF YOU WANT TO USE A SUP BOARD THEN YOU MUST BOOK IN ADVANCE VIA WEBCOLLECT – BY 5PM ON WEDNESDAY 4TH*****
https://webcollect.org.uk/tudorsc/event/tudor-sc-wow-paddle-boarding
If it is windy then we will have to postpone as F4+ is too windy to safely SUP.

Galley Training
For those of you interested in contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the club through volunteering for your maintenance hours in the galley I will be running a training session this Wednesday (4th July), 1815.
The session will take up to 30mins and will give you an introduction to the kitchen, use of equipment, a few health and safety pointers and the money handling procedure. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.
Members really appreciate the galley being open on Friendly Fridays and for other events particularly having hot food when they come off the water. So volunteer to be a part of the galley team; there are 2 positions available, the cook and the cooks assistant. Being the cook means you can prepare a meal of your choice either on-site in the kitchen or make it at home and bring it in to serve so you can be as creative as you like. As the cooks assistant you will help with the prep, serving and clearing away afterwards.
Galley duties available for Friendly Fridays in July (7 / 20 / 27) and August (3 / 10 / 17 / 24 / 31) all require 2 volunteers for 3 hours each. For new members it’s a great opportunity to meet people. If you’re interested in either training or galley duty contact me via the website. Your contribution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ryde Sand Bar
Most Members will be aware of the extent of Ryde Sands. Over the passage of two years or so however, a significant sand bar has formed about 50m or so offshore of the marked channel to Ryde Harbour. A walk out at low water last week, I reckon the bar is about 0.5m higher than the adjacent sands around it. The high ground is clearly shown with lighter colour. The bar now extends about 100m west of the marked channel. Boats of 0.9m draught are almost certain to ground on high water neaps even in calm conditions.
Members contemplating visiting Ryde Harbour (high water access only possible, drying sands and harbour) should pass the No.1 stbd marker perhaps 150m north of it and continue west a further 150m before turning for the entrance directly, thereafter. The area to the west of the marked channel tends to be kept clear by the frequent traffic of the hovercrafts and their wash.

IoW Festival Medina Raft
Seven Tudor boats visited the River Medina for the IoW Festival this year. Four rafted together; Saltair, Good Year, Al Amira and Grazia. Cingara, Moondance and Miph were also spotted. The weather was superb this year, sun shades were required throughout each of the days. The sound carried well across the river in the light airs. As ever, it is being in the good company of friends for a few days that makes it all worth while coming to the event, as well as hearing the acts that perform.
The aerial pictures are courtesy of Robert Pike, Commodore of Eling Sailing Club who flew his drone, capturing the pictures. The end of Eling SC raft can be seen to the stern of our raft with 12 ESC craft attending. In years past, Tudor SC attended in similar numbers. On YouTube footage of previous years can be seen, along much more, search: thetudortube.
