Langstone Regatta – Saturday 14th July – 12:45

Langstone SC will host their annual regatta this weekend. The Sailing Instructions for the event are attached to this TD. Langstone SC have taken the decision to cancel the Prentice Plate on the Sunday in lieu of the World Cup Final and instead, the Regatta decider will be race 1, Prentice Plate, race 2 on the Saturday.

The 2 races on the Saturday will also be used to form the next leg of the Langstone Combined Clubs Series – see attached.

There is no cost to enter the regatta if you sail round to the club, only if you choose to visit the club following the racing for afternoon tea.

Use of Club Dinghies

Please note that the club Fevas, Quba and Teras should only be used if the wind is no stronger than a force 4 wind (max 16 knots). This should be measured as per the Cambermet service which can be found at www.cambermet.co.uk. This is in line with the manufacturers recommendations for these dinghies and is in place to ensure that the hulls are not over stressed by the forces caused by high winds. Please therefore check the weather conditions before taking the club boats out. If you have used Fast Courts to book and pay for a club boat, you will be refunded if you are unable to use it due to the weather conditions.

Low Water Cruise 8th July

The weather was beautiful!!

We started off the day with a plethora of different boats ready to be rigged and set out.

Bosun (2A 2C), Graduate (2A), Kestrel (3C), 2 Lasers (1A) (1C), Lightening (1A), 3 x Wanderers (3A) (2A 2C) (2A 2C), 2 x Wayfarers (3A) (1A 2C) and 1 Vision (1A 1C) – 18 Adults and 13 Children

Of course we had our 2 Patrol boats with us – many thanks to them. Thankfully their day was fairly uneventful!

It took us a while to get rigged and launched as, I’m pleased to say, we had some boats / members along that don’t sail as much as other members so it was lovely to offer them the opportunity to sail in company!

This was Danni’s first dinghy Cruise (as Leader) and she did a sterling job. She gave us a briefing and then everyone got ready to go.

We had a rather odd sail going South – the wind was light and all over the place! It then became fairly brisk and we had a good sail down to Sinah buoy. Then off for a pint and lunch at the Ferryboat. This was incredibly busy and I was surprised at just how much ‘wash’ there was along the shore! There were also some substantial rocks just under the water – we guessed they were placed there to tie the Jet Skies to?

Then of to a favourite place of mine – Sword Sands. A lot of us had a swim, the water clear and warm!

What was really lovely to see was all the children enjoying themselves both sailing and swimming in Russel’s lake. It was a job to get some boats off of the water – I know I didn’t want the fun and enjoyment to end either.

Thank you Danni!

Pilfering from yacht moorings

Just to say that Emma was off mooring 48 for an overnight excursion from 1630 on Friday 6 July until 1830 on Saturday 7 July. Sometime during that 26-hour period, a pair of oars was taken from the tender we left on our buoy. Previously (perhaps unwisely) we had left oars in the tender on numerous occasions without a problem. In future, we shall clutter up our cruiser by taking the oars with us. Fortunately we were able to improvise paddles from the two vanes of a motoring cone, and make our way back to TSC in the tender. I don’t know if any other boats suffered loss or intrusion at a similar time to us. Other owners may wish to check.
