Cruise to Swanwick, Hamble River

Eight cruisers, Atropos, Celtic Lady, Cinnabar, Dream On, Good Year, Grace, Grazia, and Saltair made the trip to Swanwick marina over the weekend. Some boats with grandchildren aboard making the most of the last weekend before the start of the new school year.

This cruise started outbound unusually on Friday to coincide with the Bursledon regatta, normally held on the August bank holiday weekend but deferred for a suitable weekend tide. The Hamble river has a significant tidal high water stand for the regatta activities. Setting off Friday gave us more time together as well as the regatta. Friday evening crews and a few friends (over 30 of us) enjoyed a meal together at the Old Ship pub.

Seven tenders crossed from Swanwick to Bursledon to watch the afternoon’s activities with some participants amongst us. Others walked around to the Jolly Sailor pub to watch the events from the shore.

The sailing, rowing and swimming races were followed by a procession of themed floats (Australia) passing constructions of Sydney’s harbour bridge and opera house. Some Tudor members joined in with decorations, hats and outfits also. Later, in the evening the was a fireworks display.

It was a leisurely Sunday morning before setting off homeward bound. A couple of cruises still to come before the season’s over.

Cruiser Relaunch

A few people are already making plans for next year and have asked about the relaunch dates, so Linda Vacher has asked me to pass on that they are 13th and 14th April 2019. I’d better put my antifouling order in soon!
