Hand Held VHF Radios

Please note that, if you have a hand held VHF radio and it is not listed on your Cruiser radio licence, you are legally required to have it licenced. This is done on the OfCom website and is free of charge:

Patrol Boat Training

Please note that Mark Webb has advised that he is expecting to be able to run one or two Patrol Boat training sessions in December. He will not know the dates that he is available until nearer the time so this is just giving those interested some forewarning that we may spring some training dates on you with relatively short notice. It will be first come first served!

FastCourts

We took a one year licence for FastCourts to see if it was a smart way of managing the booking and payment of our club boats but it is clear that it does not work sufficiently well for us. As such, we would like to consider other options of managing this. This could be another clever online system, or a more simple solution like an online spreadsheet or perhaps something paper based if we really can’t find a technical solution. Is there a member out there who would like to earn some maintenance hours by taking this on as a project to review what systems/processes we could use and to make recommendation for a way forward? If so, please let me know.

Rowing Section Update

Tudor Sailing Club – rowing section are looking to host a sit on kayak event the Sunday of the Push the boat out weekend 2019 (date TBC). This will be an open invitation to kayak in Langstone Harbour for single and double sit on kayaks with age restrictions set for certain races.

We are looking to set up an event committee to start things off. Assistance from our experienced kayakers (Nikki Rivington & Graham Ducane to name but two) in getting this event up and running would be appreciated. There is a lot of work required to get this event put in place, courses need to be set, advertising posters / flyers designed, safety documentation drafted etc. We will keep you informed with event progress via Tidal Diamond.

A video of the TSC rowers in the 2018 Thames Great River Race has been posted on YouTubeFreedom in 2018 Thames Great River Race. It is worth a look – rowing the Thames is not as easy as you might think can be rough.
