Spring Series 1 / Easter Egg

This Saturday is the start of the spring series races, starting at 11:30. As this race falls on the same weekend as Easter, as is tradition there will be Easter themed prizes given out after the race for first, second and third place. So please stay around after the racing for the results and prizes.

Trafalgar Pursuit Race

This Sunday is the Trafalgar pursuit race starting at 12:00. For those not familiar with pursuit races, all boats start at a specific time based on your Tudor handicap number. With the slowest boat starting first. The theory goes that if all boats taking part do equally well then everyone finishes at the same time. In practice the sailors sailing better will either stay infront of the fast boats or, if sailing a fast boat, catch the slower boats up.

The start times after the start signal will be displayed at the bottom of the race box steps. If anyone is wanting more information about pursuit races then please feel free to email me.

Cadet Captain Vacancy

The sailing committee are currently sorting out the job description for the role of cadet captain. Once this is complete it will be issued to members. In the meantime if anyone is interested in being cadet captain and running the cadet nights on a Wednesday evening during the summer, then please do get in contact with the sailing committee.

Ebb & Flow:

If you are interested in sea grass in the harbour there is a piece on planting it in Langstone Harbour on last Sunday’s Countryfile. It is generally a coastal episode, with other pieces around the Solent. You can catch up on it using iPlayer: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0016ckv/countryfile-plant-britain-by-the-sea

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Let’s be careful out there.

RNSA HSSC Spring Series Race 3 Results

From Ric Hanslip. In contrast to the gale force gusts of the previous week which prompted cancellation of racing, the gentle westerly of 8-12 Kts was the prelude to a delightful evening’s racing. The east going tide and a westerly wind presented the option of keeping the race track close to the shore in Stokes Bay and away from the regular cruise liners in the main channel, although with an anticipated drop in breeze as the evening wore on the tide was likely to present difficulties for the slower boats.
