Kayak Owners
FAO owners of kayaks stored in the rack. If your kayak is on the bottom of the rack please can you make sure you are at compound reorg on Saturday or go down beforehand to move it temporarily. We need full access on Saturday in order to lay the matting down, this will protect hulls from the gravel.

Low Water Cruise
This Sunday is the first low water cruise of the year. This is a chance to get out on the water with patrol boat cover and explore the harbour at low water with a stop on Sword Sands. If anyone wants to lead the cruise then please let me know, otherwise I am happy to lead the cruise on the day. There is a space for a second patrol boat helm but it is not crucial for the cruise to go ahead as we will stay in the harbour.

Cruiser Racing
Calling all Cruiser racers. This weekend sees the start of our Cruiser races with the first leg (three races in total) of the Ian Silk Forts and Fairways Trophy. The start will be at 0900 from the ECA start line, as always everyone is welcome and hopefully we will still have some of this lovely weather around for the day. Please find attached a copy of the race instructions, a copy can also be found on line on the website.
For any new sailors or boats that have changed their set up please could I ask you to complete the attached rig declaration and return a copy to myself via email.
We also have a “WhatsApp” group set up for the Cruiser racing, great place to keep up to date with events, cancellations due to weather plus recording start and finishing times. If you wish to join the group please drop me a message to my mobile at 07808828552.
Hope to see as many of you as possible on the water this Saturday.

Our Very First Interclub Rowing Race
Introducing Tudor Challenge
I wanted to share some exciting news with you as it’s a first for TSC this year. As agreed within the sailing committee, the rowing section are planning an interclub rowing race within our harbour for 2022 which we hope will be attended by clubs across all three harbours.
Our hope is that this will become an established annual event for Tudor within the calendar and we’ve named it TSC Tudor Challenge. The inaugural race is under planning for 13th August using race planning experience from across the club.
Naturally there will be a social element to the race and the social secretary is onboard to design how best to host guests. This is sure to include breakfast bacon butties and a BBQ after the race .
You’ll start to see advertising on the club’s website and social media and more information about challenge categories as we move forward. We’ve already got 7 local clubs ‘saving the date’ and the official invite goes out in the next week or so.
The race itself will, of course, be open to all Tudor members to participate in or to attend and enjoy the day. And I really hope you do come and join us if you’re not already a rower.

Studland Bay Voluntary No-anchor Zone
As you may be aware, recreational boaters who use, visit and enjoy Studland Bay are being asked to help protect its precious habitats for the future. The Marine Management Organisation is encouraging everyone to work together to protect Studland Bay Marine Conservation Zone. A voluntary no-anchor zone has been introduced to help reduce damage caused by boats dropping and weighing anchors. The voluntary no-anchor zone started on 17 December 2021 and will become a permanent larger area from June 2022. The site’s seagrass beds are home to a protected species of seahorse and other wildlife, as well as forming important nursery grounds for fish stocks. For more information including a map, please see the attachment.

A Rowing Adventure Around Portsmouth
There’s always great excitement in the rowing section when someone says ‘conditions are perfect for round Portsmouth this weekend’. Of course many of the rowers are old hands at it but there’s always a few first timers, which makes for an exhilarating row combining stamina and teamwork.
We were on the water for 8am on Saturday and started rowing clockwise. Blessed with the best of conditions, the South Easterly breeze produced enough “sea state” to keep everybody on their toes along the front. A brilliant row and at this point a first for a few as we rowed past South Parade Pier and on towards the Round Tower. As usual the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour on a hard spring tide with the tight space restriction for small craft and large eddies slewing 40 footers from their track, coupled with the simultaneous exit of a new large IOW ferry proved “exciting” for all and most definitely an eye opener for the first timers who handled the challenge admirably. Of course at this point we stopped at the marina, as no row would be complete without brunch and banter in the warm sunshine. Then it was onward for the next leg across our eternally interesting harbour with history from the most modern of ships…the carrier Queen Elizabeth to HMS Victory…. and Buildings….the Spinnaker tower to Roman Portchester Castle…..eventually reaching the next part of the adventure consisting of the series of road and rail bridges in the North at “High Tide”…. Interesting is one word I’d use, but in some instances we did succumb to other words..with minimal clearance, a foul tide and bent down very low some were rowed through, others having to haul along using the wall chains. As was expected the railway bridge was almost a stopper with literally just millimetres between gunwale and bridge, crews laid down and boats worked under by a water baby, through into our beautiful Langstone Harbour and home. Nearly 23k of fun, singing, and laughter. A great trip with amazing people. Sound like fun? Please do get in touch if you haven’t yet tried rowing

Ebb & Flow:
You’ve got this far and you want more? Have you read all the attachments? OK, I can manage one last bit!
Fancy a week sailing in the Ionian?
Message from Peter Burke: I’ve been made aware of two remaining slots on a 39 foot boat cruising with an experienced and qualified instructor from Levkas from 4th to 11th June.
Primarily aimed at people that might be thinking of a flotilla or bareboat holiday but would prefer to begin with a week with an instructor there will be lots of stern to mooring practice at a time of year that will be a bit quieter than the height of summer.
I’ve been to the area many times and there are easy flights to Preveza which is a half hour cab ride from Levkas marina. It’s beautiful and the sailing is generally quite easy going.
Full details are here – please pass the word around to anyone who may be interested. Don’t forget that the price doesn’t include flights and transfers but these are inexpensive and easy to arrange.

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.
Let’s be careful out there.
