Women on the Water – Thursday 13th June

This week the plan is to go sailing (wind permitting) however, for those who are not keen sailors we have the option of splitting into two smaller groups and paddling if that suits. If it is too breezy for sailing then we will paddle and sail next week instead!
If you can’t make it this week don’t worry the sessions for 2019 are running weekly, drop a line to wow or come to any of the sessions.

See you on the water soon.

Tudor Rowing Success

Tudor rowing in “Freedom” fought of all the competition to win last weekends 8 mile round the fort ECA “Cockleshell Challenge” race for the 3rd year running. This race is run to honour the Cockleshell heroes of the second world war involved in an attack on enemy installations in Bordeaux by canoes. Unbeknown to the crew till after the race the winning rules appear to have changed whereby the trophy was given to the Fastest boat regardless of handicap. However even under this draconian measure they still took the honours, not only being the fastest Bursledon Gig, but also covering the course in a faster time than even the the 6 oared 32ft. Cornish pilot gigs and the 22ft. Solent galleys. Indeed when they crossed the line one could barely make out the second boat on the horizon. Freedoms time was 1hr. 34Min. A special word for the cox Jay DuCane as this course requires the use of compass as well as tide and logistic thinking. The trophy can be viewed snugly tucked away for another year in the Tudor Trophy Case. See attached pics to view some happy people.
