Galley Training – Thursday 21st July
If you need to do duty hours to save you having to pay the dreaded bill at the end of the year, and are happy to help in the kitchen then please book to come along to galley training this Thursday.
This will entail going through health and hygiene procedures, allergies etc. This will only take about an hour, is very informal, and it means you are then able to help in the galley.
Galley duties can be helping with the BBQ’s, serving food, cleaning and washing up. You don’t have to be able to cook, unless you want to.

Turning the Tide – Friday 22nd July
There’s still time to book for this Friday evening. Join us for a look at how the tides work in our harbour, and what affects them. Plus some basic training on all those floating buoys out there and what they mean for you.
We’re delighted to be welcoming John Bearman to the club to speak. John works for the Hampshire Police Marine Unit and is also a RYA yachtmaster instructor.
There’ll be chilli and rice served between 6pm and 7pm and the talk will start at around 7pm. You don’t have to eat to come along, but pre booking either way would be appreciated so we know numbers to expect/cater for.

Friendly Friday Race Night – Friday 29th July

Games Night – Friday 5th August
Bring your favourite games with you or come along and join in some team games.
We will be serving cheesy nachos with guacamole, salsa and sour cream if you fancy a snack!
Please don’t make me play solitaire!

Rowing Bits & Bobs
Hi everyone.. apologies up front, long update from me this week, so put your feet up
New Rowing Gig
The club is pleased to welcome a new club rowing gig to join Rosie and Olive in the large compound.
If you are available this coming Wednesday, 20th July, at 5.15 pm, do come and join us and meet ‘Lady Jane’ at her official naming ceremony, presided over by our Commodore.
It will be a short ceremony, but we wanted to welcome Lady Jane properly to the Tudor family, before her inaugural row. We’d be delighted if you could join us.
Friendly Friday Race Night July 29th from 6pm
Only two race nights left for the summer season. Please join us on the 29th. It’s the usual format where we mix the teams up and race around the Broom buoy and back. This month we’re delighted to be welcoming the rowers from the Coastal Rowing Academy that took part in the 24 hour row, and also members of Dell Quay Sailing Club. Dell Quay have recently added coastal rowing to their activities and we’re delighted to host them and let them try out our Bursledons.
The social committee will be serving (my personal favourite) Mac & Cheese and here’s the link. https://webcollect.org.uk/tudorsc/event/friendly-friday-rowing-race-night-3
If you want to row please arrive in time for the briefing at 6.15pm. Rowing not essential though, everyone welcome for a fun summer evening.
Fareham Creek Rowing Regatta – another trophy
On Saturday and Sunday we were invited to attend the rowing regatta held by Fareham Sailing & Motor Boat Club. A brilliant informal fun weekend using traditional wooden long boats.
I’m delighted to say Tudor took first place with the women’s trophy.
It was a short sprint course roughly 1km, involving 180 degree turns that make all the difference in boats we are unfamiliar with.
Brilliant result. Congratulations.

Ebb & Flow:
A few attachments to draw your attention to this week. Firstly there is an image with the harbour speed limits around the Solent which Hampshire Marine Police have been circulating. It may be handy to have a copy.
Secondly, as mentioned a while back, National Coastwatch have started putting together newsletters. I’ve been a bit slow with the first one and was going to hold the second one until next week, but since it deals with tides and we have Turning the Tide on Friday I decided to include both.
As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.
Let’s be careful out there.
