Crowds ‘learn to fly’ at Foiling Week

More than 50 novice foilers 'take flight'

RNSA(P) Wednesday Summer Series race 8

Another glorious summers evening designed entirely for yacht racing. Almost the full fleet assembled missing only Kurketrekker (running racing in the west country), Jolly Jack Tar (dodgy donk) and Swordfish (charter) although the Turn to Starboard Match 40 provided by Sunsail has also now foundered through lack of funding - sad! Tinker T in the absence of Kurketrekker took on SOOD duties and set a long windward - leeward course with the beat into a raging east going tide, a delight for the faster boats! The first start saw Crazy Horse picking the perfect line into Darling Associates closely followed by the two Sigma 33's.

Southampton youngsters raise their sailing game at OnBoard Festival

Young OnBoarders had a great chance to take part in a bonanza of junior sailing on Saturday (13 July) when 16 children all under the age of 16 came to the Southampton Water Activities Centre to take part in the Southampton RYA OnBoard Festival.

Ebb & Flow

Your club magazine needs your contributions please. Let us know how your summer season is progressing out on the water – whether its sailing, rowing, canoeing, kayaking. Successes, failures, what lessons can you pass on to other club members? Whether racing, cruising or just pottering about on the water, let us know and help generate interest in club activities. Share your sailing experiences and plans with the rest of us. Anything on water-based activities is welcome and we’d also like to hear from cadets and new members as well.

Please send your contributions to Richard Curtis at ebbnflow

Moorings

We have had some issues with boats coming adrift this year. Please check your mooring chain is secure and in good repair. Particular care in inspecting your shackles and swivel on the riser is recommended. Consider using grade 3 shackles which you are allowed to oversize if you wish. The Specification is on the Bosuns Web and Notice Board.

Rowing News

New oars have been delivered for Rosie, and her original oars transferred to the Green Gig which has been christened ‘Olive’. Olive is now available to book through the club booking system and has already had a few excursions. We are hoping that she can be adapted for four rowers (rather than the more usual three) during the course of this week, as she is slightly beamier than Rosie.

On the 24th August the Tudor SC has been invited to take part in the Boatyard Sheave Race, which is part of the Swanwick, Bursledon and Warsash Regatta (https://bursledonregatta.co.uk/gig-racing/). Please let me know if there are any budding crews out there.

The Gigs take to the water several times during the week, so if you are interested in giving rowing a try, please get in touch to arrange an outing. On Saturdays two boats normally go out early, and a second excursion again at 10:30 which would be a good time to aim for.
