UPDATE ON CORVID19 RESTRICTIONS AT HORNET

Some easing of restrictions. Dear Members, Following government announcements last week we are pleased to update you on the further lifting of restrictions from this Saturday 4th July that includes overnight stays on boats and the opening up of the Clubhouse Bar and Restaurant services. This is a significant step forward for us all! The safety of our members, their families and guests remains our top priority and we will be following government guidelines and urge everyone to maintain the 2m social distancing and where this is not viable, 1m is acceptable with mitigation measures in place including the use of face coverings.

Sea Defences Work

The Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership have published a July update which is relevant to the work near Tudor.

Work is progressing on the Portsmouth City Council North Portsea Island Phase 4 scheme. Before our contractor Mackley starts work on the flood embankment and wall, a section of the coastal path will be temporarily closed from 1st July 2020, as shown in the map below. This is to keep the public safe. Diversion signs will be in place and the footpath along Eastern Road will remain open. There are no road closures planned for the Eastern Road. The new defences are part of a wider flood protection scheme for the North of Portsea Island. The scheme is designed to reduce the risk of flooding from the sea for the next 100 years to over 4,200 homes and nearly 500 business worth around £640m.

For more details and future updates on the work you can visit: http://www.escp.org.uk/news/eastern-road

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address if you feeling isolated and cut off from the world. It is always nice to hear from members, and any ideas of things to do would be most welcome.

Stay safe.

Urgent call from MCA for people to mark property

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is urging kayak owners, and other watersports enthusiasts, to clearly label their property. This comes after hours were wasted looking for the owner of a kayak in the Solent this week. All it takes is a sharpie with a name and / or phone number. Marking-up surfboards, kayaks, SUPs, inflatables, paddles and lifejackets could help save invaluable time.

Royal Navy Sailing Centre (Portsmouth) reopens!

The RNSC has been closed since we went into lockdown on 23 Mar, but from Mon 29 Jun it reopens its slipways and to solo sailors (unless from the same household or social bubble). Message by Lee Bichard copied from the RNSC Facebook Group: Well after months locked down today has seen our instructor Ian Parker afloat for the first sail since we were shut down in March.
