Customs Status of Boats: European Commission shares Post-Brexit plans with RYA

The European Commission has provided RYA with further clarification on its position on the Customs Status of Boats after the End of the Brexit Transition Period.

New national restrictions in England from 5 November

What does lockdown mean for boating in England?

Forthcoming Period of Lockdown

From the Commodore Further to my email of Monday, the Executive Committee met yesterday to determine the Club’s position and compliance with the latest Government Covid-19 rules and guidance. Whilst I understand the disappointment this will cause to members, the Club is bound to comply with Government direction and therefore has decided that the following measures will be implemented from this evening: Marina staff will carry out safety and security rounds of the Marina and FB3 Monday – Saturday No members will be allowed access to boats in the marina or FB3 from this evening We will continue to aim to achieve the winter lift programme through November/December and members will be contacted directly to be given instructions on the procedure for this The bar and restaurant will be closed until further notice and Clubhouse staff will be placed back on Furlough We will obviously keep the situation and these arrangements under close review, and we will advise members as soon as we are able to ease these restrictions.

National Restrictions due to Covid-19

As you will be aware, the UK Government has announced that tighter restrictions are due to come into effect in England at 12:00 am Thursday 5th November and will remain in place for four weeks. The full details of the restrictions are yet to be announced and are subject to a vote in Parliament scheduled to take place on Wednesday. The RYA has committed to providing further guidance on Wednesday evening, or if that is not possible, on Thursday evening.

Until such detail is confirmed, we need to make a worst case assumption that Tudor Sailing Club will need to completely close for this four week period. This would mean no one would be able to access boats in the compound, or enter the Clubhouse, during this time (the only exception being that we would reinstate the regular Executive Committee safety and security checks).

If you need to take steps to prepare your boat for the winter (for example to remove sails), we strongly recommend you do this before Wednesday evening.

We will review the details of the Government’s announcement and the RYA Guidance, once these are available, before this weekend. If we are in a position to allow certain activities, for example to allow individual / household sailing or to allow work on boats in the compound, we will do so, gladly.

We will issue a further announcement as soon as we have completed this review.

In the meantime we wish you and your families well.

Waiting for the Tide

Well here we go again, just as I’m making a mental note to get as much work done early this year, just in case there are restrictions that make things difficult closer to the cruiser relaunch, we get another lockdown – just to prove the point!

I have included the main text from the recent Webcollect email above, just to make sure everyone has seen it.

In the Diary Dates section below I have added ‘presumed cancelled’ to the two Frostbite races as that seems likely, but there will be another Tidal Diamond before the first race where I can provide an update. The RYA briefing is Wednesday evening following guidance being confirmed from the Government, so more details with be avilable to us then – assuming there are no delays to the information being available of course!

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address if you feeling isolated and cut off from the world, even though this lockdown is slightly different things are far from normal. It is always nice to hear from members, and any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Stay safe.

Dear Tudor

I’m sure you have all heard about the latest lockdown, starting Thursday.

It goes without saying that the bar will have to close during this time, including use by rowers, wow, etc.

In light of this, we will not open the bar today, in order to allow me to clean, stock take and shut the bar down properly.

I do have a small amount of stock to sell cheap, which can be collected today, Wednesda,

or another evening by appointment (please call 07464933423 or email me).

I have:

4 pints of Perridge Ale – £5

J2O Apple and Raspberry/Orange and Passion fruit £0.50

Becks Blue – £0.20

I also have crisps at £0.25 per packet.

Please keep an eye on your emails for updates, and hope to see you all soon!

Stay safe!

Kind regards

Alex
