Tidal Diamond 335 – Bye-laws changes, New cash recording, Wetside Duties crisis

Tidal Diamond No. 335

Changes to Bye-laws affecting Membership for Young Adults

Following the discussions at the 2013 AGM, the Exec Committee has passed amendments to the club Bye-laws with the aim of making club membership more attractive to young adults.

Effectively, people joining the club who are 25 or younger will no longer have to pay a joining fee and all adult members who are 25 or younger will pay 35% of the standard annual membership fee. The full 15 hours of club duty will still be required, to avoid paying the Maintenance Levy.

As this matter had been discussed in some detail at the last AGM, we felt that it would be useful to introduce this change now; members wishing to discuss it further will be able to do so at the next AGM, by which time we hope to be able to see if it has had any effect on the membership profile.

The exact changes to the Bye-laws are as follows:

4. New Members
Add the following:

(g) For Individual members joining before the year in which their 26th birthday falls and for Family members joining before the year in which the 26th birthday of the younger partner of the couple falls, the club entrance/joining fee will be waived.

6. Club Fees and Subscriptions
Insert the following between the current ‘b’ and ‘c’:

(c) For Individual members joining or renewing before the year in which their 26th birthday falls and for Family members joining or renewing before the year in which the 26th birthday of the younger partner of the couple falls, the club membership subscription will be reduced by 65%. Note that the full amount of club duty to offset the Maintenance Levy is still required to be undertaken by such members.

New Bar, Galley and Miscellaneous Cash deposits recording

Please note the attached changes to the way Bar / Galley Takings and miscellaneous cash deposits are recorded. In summary from 1st Aug 2013 there will be 3 clip boards; Bar, Galley and Misc. These have a log sheet each for recording the running totals and any income / outgoings. Supported by the standard numbered duplicate cash slips, this should simplify the recording of transactions for those involved in Bar and Galley duties, see attached guidance for details. The cash diary and current Bar / Galley forms will be removed on 1st Aug.

Please use ONLY this system from 1st Aug.

Wetside Duties – Crisis of cover for late-August dinghy racing

At the moment there are insufficient volunteers to support the dinghy racing programme between 24th and 31st August. The Race Officer rostered for the start and end dates of this period will be on holiday and has been seeking swaps without any success. In addition two other swaps are wanted for other duties within this period and two more PBC are still needed on 24th August, when only 25% of the cover required for the event is currently in place. Full details may be viewed on Dutyman.

This Diamond is a last ditch appeal for qualified individuals to volunteer to fill the duties and enable the programme to survive intact. In particular, the Summer Series 9&10 event on 24th August is in deep trouble and the Sailing Committee has agreed to its cancellation if this appeal fails. The deadline to volunteer is Friday 9th August or, better than this, please respond by Monday 5th August (the day before the next Sailing Committee meeting). The event on 24th August will have to be cancelled if all the required duties are still not covered by 9th August.
