Langstone Harbour Race Weekend

The weekend 24th – 27th May is a big weekend for the club. As well as co-hosting the annual Langstone Harbour Race Weekend (LHRW), Tudor will host sailors taking place in the Wanderers Class National, which will be sailed as part of the LHRW. Tudor expects upwards of 20 Wanderers dinghies to be onsite during this weekend.

The LHRW event management team need volunteers to help ensure this event runs smoothly, and to ensure all visitors and sailors see the club at its best. Volunteers are needed for the following:

  • Evening of Wednesday 22nd May, from 7:30pm onwards – to prepare entry packs for competitors
  • Evening of Friday 24th May, from 6pm onwards – to ‘trim’ the club and ensure compound and external space is ready for the event
  • Throughout the Saturday, Sunday and Monday – to handle trollies, marshal visitors etc.

If you can help with any of this, please contact the event management team by email to lhrw.

Additionally, we would like to tidy the club up as much as possible before the event. If you would like to volunteer to help with this, please let us know your availability by email to the same id.

Low Water Cruise Sunday 19 May 1030 start (1000 briefing)

It’s a rainy night in Copnor to badly paraphrase a great song of my youth. And I’m thinking of a few words to encourage our dinghy membership to take to the water for our second dinghy cruise of the year.

So the intent is to encourage those that haven’t participated in the winter and spring racing series to shake out the cobwebs in a far more relaxed fashion. It’s definitely aimed at those who enjoy their sailing at a leisurely pace so please the invite is for everyone.

The club calendar shows tide is low at around 1230 and that we would depart 1030 on a gentle ebb heading south; destination to be advised. It may be the Ferry Boat Inn or the tea shop on the other side of the channel, or it could be a trip back up through Langstone Channel. We’ll keep it flexible and will brief in the morning. All I would recommend as additional equipment is a light anchor and at the very least a long painter to tie off of those that may have anchored.

Lastly for those of you that will have been looking at the weather you’ll know I’m being unbelievably optimistic, so this is the cautionary paragraph. Today’s (Tuesday) BBC Weather forecast shows a unseasonably large low heading our way for Saturday and Sunday. I won’t bang on but I will try to update on the comments page on the day’s dinghy club calendar to stop any unnecessary journeys. So I’m upbeat but realistic with our current weather patterns and will try to answer all queries and expressions of interest on my Tudor email dinghies
