AGM – Your Help is Needed!

Sorry, but it is time for my annual appeal for members to consider standing for committee positions.

From your AGM pack, you may think that we have a major shortage of nominees for committees but it is not as bad as it looks, as several members have agreed to stand subsequent to the Nominations meeting, however, this does not stop anyone who wishes from also standing.

What we really need are members willing to stand for the following positions:

Vice Commodore – this is essential this year; with Covid still being a problem and the Sea Defence works happening we really need all three Flag Officers.

Bosun’s Secretary

2 Maintenance Committee members

1 Sailing Committee member

Please consider offering to stand for these positions, the club really needs your help. If you wish to find out more about what the jobs entail, please email me at commodore.

Call for Cadet Rowers

Hi All Tudor members, happy new year.

With an optimistic look towards the unfolding year of 2021 a reminder that the rowing section remains keen to coach young Tudor members in the art of rowing.

Whilst we can’t get you out on the water just yet, it would be great to know if you have anyone between 12 and 18 interested in learning new boating skills and having some rowing fun. We’d be delighted to hear from you now so we’re ready to contact you in due course*

Just drop an email to me at rowing

Looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible. Of course the offer also applies to over 18’s if you fancy joining us in a rowing boat.

*Volunteers will be contacted in due course in line with current social distancing constraints.

These activities are monitored by the club welfare officer

Waiting for the Tide

AGM Sunday 10th January at 1400hrs

Details have been sent out via WebCollect

Just in case you missed the top item from Richard I’ve included a bit red reminder above that our AGM is this Sunday. All our committees have put in a lot of hard work this year (not that they don’t every year), and with this year getting off to such a good start it is clear this year is going to be an interesting one too. Please do have a think and see if you can help share the load by filling one of the vacant positions – we are a members club run by the members, for the members, so the more members helping with the running, the easier it is.

On the subject of the AGM, you may notice a file attached to this Tidal Diamond. This is a picture sent to me of our illustrious Dinghy Captain, Mark Swallow, so that members can recognise him at the club and on the water – I’m sure we will get back there at some point this year! He is also sporting a Tudor hoodie – there’s a link to the suppliers in the Quick Links at the bottom of the Tudor website…. on which note, if you look at the Committees and Contacts section you will find mugshots of most of the committee members and other club contacts.

Although it doesn’t entirely feel like it, it is a new year, so I shall round of by wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2021.

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address if you feeling isolated and cut off from the world. It is always nice to hear from members, and any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Stay safe.

Waiting for the Tide

This is often a quiet Tidal Diamond, events have been publicised and booked (just the New Year one to go), the AGM reminder is the key item (10th January, details no doubt coming soon via WebCollect), and Icicle series is soon to start (although that’s in doubt this year given the current restrictions).

This year, not for the first time, I’ll turn to the RYA for some interesting content:

First for the dinghy sailors there’s the Virtual RYA Dinghy Show on 27th and 28th February, more details at:

https://www.rya.org.uk/newsevents/news/Pages/Join-us-at-the-virtual-Dinghy-Show!.aspx

Then for the cruiser sailors there’s the Cruising Conference 2021 on 21st March, more details at:

https://www.rya.org.uk/newsevents/events/Pages/cruising-conference-2021.aspx

Then for everyone (although possibly most relevant to the cruiser sailors) there’s the RYA end of year statement on Brexit at:

https://www.rya.org.uk/newsevents/news/Pages/brexit-where-things-stand-for-recreational-boaters.aspx

To round things off I hope everyone had a safe Christmas. It is nearly time to bid 2020 a not so fond farewell, and hope that as 2021 progresses things start to look up.

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address if you feeling isolated and cut off from the world, even though this lockdown is slightly different things are far from normal. It is always nice to hear from members, and any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Stay safe.
