Tidal Diamond No. 256 – Ebb & Flow Deadline, Priory Bay Cruiser and Dinghy Cruise, Riley Trophy, Spring Cruise

Tidal Diamond No. 256

Deadline for the June Ebb and Flow – this is Friday 1st June
(i.e. this Friday) and is a drop-dead date this time, due to holidays.
As usual, we need your input to make Ebb and Flow interesting; if you are
writing an article (please do), a few photos help to make it even more
interesting (and make it easier for me to adjust it to fit in the space available).

Priory Bay Cruiser and Dinghy Cruise – Sunday 10th June
The Priory Bay Cruiser and Dinghy Cruise will take place on Sunday 10th June 2012.
The plan is to meet on the beach for lunch/BBQ in Priory Bay. Timings are a bit difficult because there
isn’t an available weekend when Low Water is around the middle of the day:
For Dinghies: please meet at the Club (with boats rigged and ready) for a briefing at 08:30. We are
aiming to leave at 09:00 to catch the last 30 minutes of the ebb tide. An anchor would be useful if you
have one and bring plenty of provisions for the day these can be put on the patrol boat to carry things
over for you. On the return trip high water is at 17:22 (4.4m) so to avoid a strong ebbing tide in the
entrance to Langstone Harbour you should aim to leave at around 15:30.

Low water on 10th June is 09:31 (1.1m) so cruiser crews are unlikely to be able to either get to their
boats or leave their moorings on that morning before around 11:00. It is therefore suggested that cruiser
owners wishing to join the trip could either move their boats to another vacant mooring or down harbour
the night before or go across and join the group later in the day. Cruisers can anchor in the Bay and
either use their own dinghies to get ashore or crews can be ferried ashore using the Patrol Boats if
required. The Patrol Boats will be listening on Channel 37 (M1).

Would cruiser owners please keep a listening watch on Ch37 and look out for dinghies offering help
with a tow if the winds are light.

Riley Trophy Race – Saturday 2nd June
This Saturday, 2nd of June, will be the clubs 29th Annual Riley Trophy Race.
Copies of the Sailing Instructions will be displayed on the Cruiser Notice Board together
with a signing on sheet. A further copy can be found attached to this Tidal Diamond and also
on the Tudor Web Site, Sailing->Sailing links->Cruiser Sailing links.
Andy Healey – Cruiser Race Organiser

Spring Cruise
Brock will sail to Cherbourg on Thursday 31st May (tomorrow), possibly returning via Weymouth; other members are welcome to join.
Crew for a June Baie de Seine cruise would also be welcome; please text on 07785 171896.
David Whiting – Cruiser Captain

Due to a lack of volunteers I have spaces on the galley rota for the current year.
If you were one of those that paid maintenance at renewals, then why not take the opportunity

A "dark and stormy" encounter

2 RNSA yachts recently enjoyed "dark and stormy" encounter in mid Atlantic - not of the meteorological type, but of the type to be found in the bar of St Georges Sailing Club, Bermuda. The "dark and stormy" ( dark rum and ginger beer) is Bermuda's signature cocktail and the crews of Cosmic Dancer (Clive Woodman) and Maymio (RobinMartin) couldn't resist partaking of a few when they had a chance meeting in the bar of the St Georges Sailing Club.
