Tidal Diamond 580 – BBQ, Cadets, Dutyman, Training, Available Duties, Gig Notes
Tidal Diamond No. 580
BBQ this Friendly Friday We will be firing up our new BBQ this Friendly Friday at the club. A range of BBQ food will be available from 1930 until everyone is off the water. Cask ales will also be available from the bar alongside the usual range of refreshments. Jennifer Collighan Cadets on the Water Galley Duties To avoid potential confusion and to ensure duties are properly recorded against your maintenance requirement all Galley Duties for Cadets on the water will now be managed by Duty Man alongside the usual bar and galley duties. Please login to the Duty Man system to volunteer for these duties, or email me if you require an account to be created. If you have completed a galley duty and want retrospective credit for it please email me and I shall amend the record accordingly. Jason Chipper Dutyman Please note that we have now released duties for the second half of the sailing season. You must log into Dutyman to register those dates which are not convenient to you and those which you would like to do. Please do this before 10th July. If you fail to let us know your preferences, you may be assigned duties that you cannot do and it is then your responsibility to find a replacement. Making sure that we have appropriate Race Officer and Patrol Boat crew to support our sailing calendar is a big job and it is not acceptable to expect Ian Simpson, our Dutyman Coordinator, to rearrange duties for those people who have not registered their preferences prior to 10th July. Please note, if you want to be able to do either Patrol Boat or Race Officer duties, you have to have been trained by Tudor. See following note. Will Stokely Patrol Boat Training It is great to see that lots of people have requested Patrol Boat training. However, in a previous TD, I published that Steve Skinner was offering training last Friday and no one took him up on it. Please note that Steve is offering the following dates for training. Friday 30th June, 7th and 21st July. If you want to be able to do Patrol Boat duties, you need to attend one of these training sessions so please let me know if you want to attend one of these sessions. First come first served and I will need to group PB1 or PB2 people together so it is dependent on who comes forward for each session. Please note that Tudor PB1 is a general familiarisation with our ribs, the safety kit we carry, the processes we follow both on and off the water, a familiarisation with our sailing area and its risks and an evaluation of your basic boat handling techniques on the water. Tudor PB2 is designed to train you in the recovery of capsized/turtled dinghies, lee shore recoveries and technique relating to managing a fleet of racing or cruising dinghies. Please note that, no matter how well qualified you are, the Sailing Committee requires you to complete these training sessions before being able to helm or crew on of our patrol boats and you must complete Tudor PB1 first – you cannot jump straight to Tudor PB2. Will Stokely Available Bar and Galley Duties We have a few gaps in the bar and galley duty calendar over the next few months that need volunteers! If you are available to cover one or more of these duties please volunteer via Duty Man. The dates are:
If you are not yet bar or galley trained please email me with the duties you wish to perform and I will arrange the necessary training for you. Jason Chipper Gig Notes, Care of the Carbon fibre oars Please be aware of the following points when using the Carbon fibre cleaver oars to row “Rosie”. Carbon fibre is very strong but does not like abrasion, please be very careful not to scrape or drag the shafts against any rough surface such as concrete or steel poles etc. as any damage to these oars is very difficult if not impossible to repair. It is best to use the wooden oars if there is likelihood of rough usage as these are more easily repaired if damaged.
Ian Ducane Wide Yard Brush Stop Press: This has been returned. Thanks very much. Terry Smith Diary Dates
