RNSA(P) Wednesday Autumn Series Race 2

The forecast of light airs and rain did not bode well for the second race of the Autumn Series, however the optimists prevailed and a short but enjoyable race took place in a reasonable breeze with a hint of sun. Option, the SOOD decided that with the breeze of 5 or 6 knots likely to die off completely a short course with starts combined was in order and set a beat with the tide to Stokes Bay west with a run back to the finish.

Tidal Diamond 590 – Regatta, Night Race, Gig Rowing

Tidal Diamond No. 590

Tudor SC Regatta Weekend
Saturday 9th September / Sunday 10th September

Our club regatta weekend is fast approaching, and we would like to invite all members to come and participate in a fun weekend on the water.

Cruiser Racing – There will be 2 races, 1 on the Saturday and 1 on the Sunday, with both races counting towards a 2 race regatta series. If you need additional crew, I am sure there are plenty of members who would be willing to offer help, so please let me know asap of your requirement and I will put out a message to the membership in next weeks TD, with a list of slots to fill.

Dinghy Racing – The club dinghy racing will take place on Saturday 9th September. There will be 3 short races, of approximately 30-45 minutes in duration, run from the club committee boat. The courses will be simple, sausage or triangles. Experienced youth sailors are encouraged to participate in the club dinghy races as well the junior races on the Sunday.

Junior (Mudlarks) Racing – The club dinghy racing will take place on Saturday 9th September. There will be 3 short races, of approximately 30-45 minutes in duration, run from the club committee boat. The courses will be simple, sausage or triangles.

There will be a BBQ after the sailing on both days, with a fine selection of drinks from the Bar (as usual), and a prize giving ceremony on each day, once the results have been processed. Sailing Instructions for the event will be published in next week’s TD, and on our club website.

Club Gig “Rosie” – Rowing for pleasure

This is the schedule for “Rosie” on the water till the end of this week.

  • Tuesday, 1730; Sandy, John and Ian, Cox Callum
  • Wednesday, 1730; Terry, Don and Ian, Cox Callum
  • Thursday, 1730; John, Sandy and Ian, Cox Callum
  • Saturday, 0800; John, Sandy and Ian, Cox Ella

There may also be a session for cadets on Friday evening.

As you may know the Tudor now has a rowing race team that has actually won trophies (on the wall to the right of the bar). I am now working on building a Junior team, we now have 3 Cadets (a complete crew) in training. I will teach them to both sweep and scull and by next year (when we have acquired the second Gig) it is my intention to have them compete in races alongside the adult team but in the Junior Class.

For anybody, young or old, rowing is a fantastic all over exercise routine, particularly strengthening the back, shoulders and Pelvic regions. “Rosie” is now in use with regular rowers each week and we are always seeking to include more people to make the rostering easier, particularly if you are retired and can fit in weekdays. We always have a laugh and we row in a most beautiful harbour that will “feed your soul”. I would urge every club member to consider building it into your weekly routine, within weeks you will know the difference and after 6 months you will be a significantly fitter person, if you doubt what I say then talk to the guys I regularly row with. Stop thinking “I cannot go rowing because I have THIS to” and start thinking “I cannot do THIS because I am going rowing”.

If you fancy a bash just email me. Kit needed: A buoyancy aid of some sort, wet boots or wellies, gloves and a windcheater over some layers.
