Sunday 17th September
Due to the limited timescales this Sunday, there will be no formal race briefing. However, the dinghy captain will be on hand to answer your questions and help with registration. Instead of a briefing, our race officer, Neil Boyce, has prepared the attached briefing document, to help members understand how the event will be run. In the mean time, if you have any questions, please email me.

Chichester Cruise
Sadly the next club cruise is the final one of the 2017 season and is to Chichester Marina on the 23rd and 24th September. For anyone that wants a longer time there, we are planning on going on Friday 22nd and returning on Monday 25th. We will be booking both the marina, as we should get a rally rate, and also Chichester Yacht Club for dinner on the Saturday evening.
If you intend to come, please let me know ASAP and no later than Friday 15th September so that I can book us in. Please note that there is no financial commitment if you book and then change your minds because of the weather on the day.

“Rosie” in Thames Great River Race
Last Saturday the Tudor Gig “Rosie” competed in the biggest fixed seat race in the UK, The Thames Great River Race. It is a rowing marathon covering 21.6 miles from Millwall to Richmond. Our crew consisted of Stroke, John Elson; Sculls, Ian DuCane; Bow, Sandy Craig; Cox/passengers were Callum Robbins and Jay Ducane (in this race each boat has to carry a passenger so we started the race with Callum as cox and Jay as passenger, and at half way when we halted for a drink of water they swapped around. This race is demanding of the cox as it passes under 28 bridges and there are strict rules governing which arch is used also in a fleet of 323 rowing boats carnage is all too likely. The Result was we did “Better than just good”, 17th out of a fleet of 323. Our time 2hrs 51m 37sec.
This race is a fantastic event, upwards of 2000 competitors with thousands cheering from the bridges and banks. The atmosphere is magic, and it certainly gets the adrenaline flowing. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could enter a woman’s and Juniors team next year?

Use of the BBQ
It is great to see that the Club’s new BBQ is being used quite frequently. After using the BBQ please can you ensure that it is left in a clean state and please TURN OFF the gas at the bottle for everyone’s safety.
Thank you

August Bank Holiday 2018
We had a great time at Bursledon Regatta a couple of weeks ago and have already booked Swanwick marina for next year. If you want to join us, then you need to let me know in the next couple of weeks, as Swanwick gets booked up that far in advance.
Best regards,
