Women on the Water – Thursday 10th May
New for this season is Thursday evening Women on the Water sessions. These are an opportunity for Tudor ladies to sail, kayak, row or windsurf in company. Why should the boys and kids have all the fun?
Make time on Thursday evenings* to come and join a group of like minded ladies having fun on the water in our beautiful harbour.
The sessions currently are flexible and after our first one we can plan activities that you would like to do such as have a go at gig rowing, spinnaker work, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding etc. There is no planned patrol boat but we can take out marlin with those that would like to get some more hours on the boat if we want to.
If you are interested please book a free ticket via webcollect: https://webcollect.org.uk/tudorsc/event/tudor-sc-wow
Arrive to rig the boats from 5.30pm, on the water for 6.45pm

Patrol Boat Refresher and Gurgle Familiarisation
At the beginning of the season, some of our PB1 and PB2 trained members may be feeling a little rusty. If you would like to go out on a rib to have a bit of time behind the wheel, without the pressure of an actual duty, I will be preparing a Rib for the water on Friday 11th to allow anyone, whether helm or crew, to have some time on the water to get back into the swing of it. How much time you get behind the wheel will depend on the number of people who attend!
Richard Barnes is also going to have our new patrol boat, Gurgle, on the water so that anyone wanting a familiarisation with this slightly different craft can also get some time on the water.
If you would like to take part in this session, please drop me an email so that I have a rough idea of how many people are interested.
We will aim to have both boats ready to go on the water at 6pm. If anyone can come down early to help, that would be great.
Please note that it is our Horse Racing/Chilli night (due to start at 8:30pm) so it is our intention that the refresher session will finish by 8pm (with ribs squared away) to give us time to shower and get ready for the gee gees.

Nervous about sailing?
Given the above post about patrol boat refreshers, if you are nervous about taking your dinghy out for a sail and would like to do so with some patrol boat cover, this Friday would be a great time for you to get afloat as you will have patrol boat cover until about 7:30pm. If you would like someone experienced to help rig, launch and perhaps even to sail with you, let me know and we will be able to find someone who would be willing to help you out.

Flag Officer Forum – Friday 18th May
During 2018 the flag officers plan to hold at least two flag Officer Forums where we can update you with what we have been up to and members can bring things up that they would like to have discussed or ideas that they think will be good for the club. The first one will be held on Friday 18th May, 8.30pm in the clubhouse. Food will be available as usual.

Volunteering Opportunity
The Andrew Simpson Foundation are using sailing as a way to improve the lives of local under privileged children and to teach them some valuable life skills. They are looking for competent sailors to help with this program to help with youngsters either at their Langstone Harbour centre or sailing Squibs in Portsmouth Harbour (assembling at the Historic Dockyard before shuttling across to Haslar where their Squibs are moored). I have signed up and intend to volunteer for one three hour session per week (I am told I can expect to be busy between 3 and 7pm on a weekday). Qualifications are not essential but you should be a confident sailor and willing to work with youngsters. This seems like a good opportunity for us as a club to both help those less fortunate than ourselves as well as helping to strengthen the relationship with our next door neighbours! Attached is a flyer about this. I have suggested that Nathan or Hermione, from the Andrew Simpson Centre, might come and join us on a Friendly Friday to chat to anyone interested so please let me know if this is something you might consider doing and I will let them know what interest there is.
