A half day course at the Army Offshore Sailing Centre, Fort Blockhouse All you need to know about charts and chartwork. Approximately 3 hours duration. Held in the downstairs conference room of the Army Offshore Sailing Centre, the courses are free of charge, starting around 0930 and will finish once all questions have been answered.

RYA Shorebased Training

RNSA(P) are running an RYA Dayskipper Theory Course Twelve students have signed up for the RYA Dayskipper Theory Course which is being held over the first 3 weekends in February at the Royal Navy Sailing Centre in Whale Island. The instructors are Peter Bailey, Steve Burton, Jim Oxborrow and Jim Mant with a guest appearance by Nick Hammond, a Met specialist.

RANSA Celebrates Its 60th Anniversary Over Two Days

The celebrations began with a Cocktail Party in the boatshed on Friday 26th October, 2007 followed by a Parade of Sail the next day. Two hundred people attended the Cocktail Party including Rear Admiral Nigel Coates, Fleet Commander RAN; Major General Mark Kelly, Land Commander Australia; Peter Debnam, Local Member of Parliament; Geoff Rundle, Mayor of Woollahra; Commodores of Sydney Yacht Clubs; past Commodores of RANSA; members and guests.

New Blue Ensign Permits

The RYA has introduced a computer generated Blue Ensign Permit. The processing fee is £12.00 per Permit which will run in conjunction with your SSR (Part III) or Part I Registry. Any member requiring a Blue Ensign Permit or renewal should contact the RNSA Central office for application forms.

RNSA Wives Training Week

There are still some spare places on Wives week 2008 It is hoped to run another RNSA(P) Wives’ Training Week again this year from 1-6 June. Solent based, covering the RYA Competent Crew or Dayskipper Practical syllabus, the cost will be £225 all found. Applications to Peter Bailey as soon as possible but by 20 March at the latest.

New Boat Hoist for Medway Branch

The Medway members celebrated the arrival of their own boat hoist in July. Following weight testing and proving trials several yachts are now ashore at the Upnor Hard Base. A 40ft container has been fitted out as a workshop, lighting and workbench installed and a generator to provide power provided.

AZAB 2007 – Mervyn Wheatley

Major Mervyn Wheatley has just returned from competing in the Azores and Back Race. Tamarind came 7th overall, 2nd in class and was the first singlehander. He sailed for several days in company with Raparee. Congratulation to Mervyn from the RNSA

Part I registration

According to our records there are still some members who have not updated their Part 1 Registration. These ‘old style’ certificates are no longer valid and should be renewed and exchanged for five year certificates. In addition, if the Certificate of Registry is no longer valid, nor is the Blue Ensign Permit.
