Water Quality
There isn’t a LHB Advisory meeting that goes past without some discussion about storm water discharges from the various Southern Water locations around the harbour, and with the recent non-compliant incidents the last meeting, and following Harbour Board meeting, were no exception. It is encouraging that there is increased activity from local residents and both councils, with some recent public meetings being held. The Environment Agency have encouraged the public to report pollution incidents so that they are aware and can investigate. There are details of where to report incident to on the LHB website at: http://www.langstoneharbour.org.uk/environment-water-quality.php.
In addition to the release notification emails that are forwarded by Langstone Harbour Board (see the link above for details of how to be added to the list), Southern Water now have a new ‘Beachbuoy’ service that aims to provide harbour users with up-to-date information about releases. You can sign up to this at: https://www.southernwater.co.uk/beachbuoy .
On a related note, if any club members are interested in a tour of Budds Farm to see how waste water is treated, let me know and I will look into arranging one. If you want to get some idea of what’s involved there was a piece in the Spring 2018 Ebb & Flow (if you can’t find your copy head to: https://tudorsc.wordpress.com/2018/06/27/ebb-n-flow-spring-2018/).
