First of 5 evenings of handicap racing in Portsmouth harbour Four RNSA sailors turned out for the first evening of the James Cup. All four sailed fusions which, to the race officer’s delight, negated the need for handicap. The sun shone throughout and the fleet enjoyed some occasionally flukey SE F3 winds.

With the embers of the Red Arrows display, part of the D Day anniversary celebrations, dying in the sky overhead the small fleet of yachts assembled at the Gilkicker start line for the second race of the Summer Series. A moderate South westerly of 15 knots and a honking east going tide looked like it was going to be a big boat race again - beats into the tide plus big tidal gates always favour the quicker yachts.
