HSSC Weekly Update Friday 2nd September 2022

From the Club Sec. Places were allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis as in previous years, but we understand that a number of you were disappointed that you were unable to secure a place on one of the most popular evenings in the Club's social calendar.

HSSC RNSA Autumn Series Race 2 Results

From Ric Hanslip. The eagerly awaited wind duly arrived for race 2 of the Autumn Series. In fact for some possibly a litte too much as Wizard was sporting 2 reefs and a much reduced headsail at race start which with an Easterly requiring a downwind start might be a tad under-canvassed. Happy Apple took on the SOOD duty and with the complication of a large grey flat top parked off Ryde Middle sporting an all-round exclusion zone but dead downwind of the start line caused some initial head scratching.

Women on the Water

There are only a couple of Thursdays left for WoW so if you have not been yet or not been down in a while here is your opportunity to go afloat with a bunch of great ladies. This week we can kayak or row and next week we might be able to go sailing (subject to helm availability). As the light is starting to fade earlier please arrive early with the aim of being rigged and ready on the slipway at 1800.

The MCA out of date flare disposal service is ending at the end of 2022, so if you have some you need to get rid of, now would be a good time. There currently isn’t a replacement in place. More details can be found on the RYA site at: https://www.rya.org.uk/news/time-running-out-on-mca-flares-disposal-service.

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address, it is always nice to hear from members. Any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Let’s be careful out there.

HSSC Weekly Update Friday 26 August 2022

From the Club Sec. Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bank Holiday weekend is upon us, and soon after the Battle of Britain dinner and Arty's formal dining out will be taking place on September 10th. For those of you that are joining us for that evening look out for an email next week confirming final details.

HSSC RNSA Autumn Series Race 1 Results

From Ric Hanslip. Another gloriously warm late August evening saw the fleet of 5 meet for the first of the Autumn Series. The wind was a light south easterly and SOOD Sunshine after considerable debate set a course of Greenings Fintech(P), Fairhall West(P), Greenings Fintech(S), finish. With an east going tide this meant a fairly slow run against the tide to the downwind mark and then windward leg carrying the tide home.

Classic powerboat sharing opportunity

Classic powerboat sharing opportunity. A retired Naval officer seeks partners (2) to join him in his Fairey Huntsman 31 (rear cabin) moored on the RNSA free standing pontoon berth in Gosport, opposite Fort Blockhouse. There would be ample boating opportunities for shared ownership and cost. Full details on request.
