Social Events

In these otherwise gloomy times, we have a couple of events, over the following weekend to look forward to as well

  • Friday 30th October will be a pub quiz
  • Saturday 31st October will be a Halloween Film Night

The pub quiz will be hosted by the lovely Nicola Craig, and will take the normal format of teams of up to 6, with a first prize of a round of drinks for the table.

Why not test your knowledge, and join us for a fun evening?

Obviously, due to Covid restrictions, Halloween parties and traditional celebrations are off the cards, so why not join us at the club for a night of spooky fun?

The evening will be split into 2 events –

16:30 – 19:00 ~ Family friendly Halloween themed film (PG), with some spooky treats, Non alcoholic and alcoholic spooky cocktails available from the bar.

Bring a carved pumpkin for a Social Distant Photo opportunity as we place candles inside them, and light them outside!

19:30 Onwards ~ the bar lights will go out, spooky surprises wait in the wings, as we sit down to watch a true horror film (18). expect some scary surprises throughout the night.

Fancy Dress optional for both events, with prizes given for the best dressed!

All of the above events will run under the standard Covid – 19 measures within the bar:

All drinks must be ordered at the table.

Masks must be worn at all times when not seated (why not make it part of your costume?!

You should remain seated at all times, unless leaving the bar, or using the toilet etc.

Empty glasses will be collected by bar staff.

When we move outside, social distancing must be maintained.

Table groups must be a maximum of 6, unless entirely from the same household.

This applies to teams for the quiz too.

Last Orders will be 21:30. The bar must be closed, and all customers out by 22:00

Please use mobile app to order where possible. Orders can, however, be taken at tables.

Above all, please bear with myself and my bar volunteers, as the new system takes time, and you may have to wait for your drinks!

Many Thanks again for your continued support,

Both events are live on Webcollect, in order to purchase tickets – the quiz is free, and Halloween is £1 per person.

Pre-booking is very very strongly recommended, especially for Halloween.

Coxes and Young Rowers

Hi All club members,

As you may know the rowing section operates all year round and we are on the water several times a week. On Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings we need the services of Coxswains and since the start of the rowing section some 4 years ago we have relied upon the members of the cadet section and they have done and are still doing a fantastic job, however some of them are now becoming “Older” and their lifestyles make it difficult for them to look after us and so we need to add new blood to the pool.

In accordance with Tudor Club policy all interactions with young members are monitored by the club welfare officer and the day to day organisation of the cox`s is done via an “Instagram” group.

There are some positives in coxing for us….we pay for the service by each rower donating £3 which amounts to £9 per outing….. also we will teach you to row efficiently and we are keen to build a new cadet team……also the coxing experience will greatly improve your level of seamanship and navigation particularly in the understanding of tides which are critical in all aspects of boating….also once your ability has reached a sufficient level there is the opportunity to learn night time navigation as we row in the dark during the winter months evening sessions….also it is an opportunity to engage in a sport that will improve your level of fitness and above all is great fun.

If you are interested just email:- rowing.

Waiting for the Tide

A couple of notes on the Social Events listed above. The text is largely as sent earlier, but the date for the Quiz is 30th October not November (checked against Webcollect). It is also worth noting that the times for the Halloween films on Webcollect don’t currently match the published times, although booking should still work.

For anyone who wasn’t able to attend the RYA Brexit webinar but was interested it is available on YouTube using the link below. There is much that is not yet known, but areas covered include paying VAT on boats kept in the EU being brought back to the UK (not such an issue for boats on Tudor moorings) and time limits on visits to the EU (may impact very long holidays or if you spend time working there and the want to cross the channel).

As ever, feel free to drop me an email at this address if you feeling isolated and cut off from the world, even though lockdown has been eased things are far from normal. It is always nice to hear from members, and any ideas of things to include in the Tidal Diamonds would be most welcome.

Stay safe.
